Decorating Won’t Stop Christmas Events

Christmas Events at Old ChurchOld Church redecorations - they will not stop Christmas events taking place

The Friends of St Mary’s are pleased to report that their regular Christmas events will still go ahead this year.

As you may have noticed, work started a week ago on the redecoration of the Old Church.  The Friends’ Keep the Bell Ringing appeal of 2016 raised money towards the repair of the roof and tower to make the structure watertight.  The Churches Conservation Trust, of course, also helped a lot with that project.  Now the internal redecoration work, using Mrs Yvonne Henderson’s legacy,  is underway and will probably last 12 weeks.  The photos were taken on 8th November showing a strong start but with lots still to do.

Although the Old Church will be locked while work is in progress, the Friends’ have permission from the builders (Bakers of Danbury), to hold 2 Christmas events there during December; these will afford a great opportunity to see the progress being made!

Taking place between 11:30 am – 2:00 pm on Sunday 1st December, soft drinks, coffee and other savoury eats will also be on offer.  The event also affords an opportunity to take out or renew membership (just £5 a family), and to buy Christmas Cards of the church.  There is no charge for this event but you are welcome to offer a donation.

The Annual Carol Service

Sunday 15th December 2019, 2.30 pm.  This is normally a candlelit service but will not be this year because of the redecorations underway.  You are advised to bring a cushion if you want to have a comfortable seat.
