The Environment & Highways Committee of West Bergholt Parish Council met on 20th February 2020 and discussed:

  • Pond cleaning & maintenance,
  • Replacement trees, Mumford Oak, purple beeches & cricket bat willows,
  • Handymen work schedule,
  • Bus stops & school buses,
  • Rejuvenation of Poor’s Land & Heath,
  • Parks & playgrounds &
  • A number of more administrative matters.

Downton Abbey, the latest Film Club event on 29th February, picks up in 1927, about 18 months after the TV series ended.  It starts with news of a Royal visit but complications set in with some family issues and a stranger in the village.  The film retains most of the original cast including stars  Michelle Dockery, Matthew Goode & Dame Maggie Smith.  Enjoy the trailer & synopsis of the show below as well as some trivia.  Skip the synopsis if you don’t want to know too much of what happens.

Colchester Borough Homes is planning to upgrade the Erle Havard Play Area this year and are consulting on  5 options.  You can see some simple illustrations of the five options on their website at cbhomes.org.uk/park-poll/ and, on that same page, click on your preferred option.

The deadline for responses is 24th January so is looming; there is no constraint on who can vote so an opportunity to get the kids involved!

Hotel Transylvania 3 – A Monster Vacation at Half Term

The West Bergholt Film Club is showing the Sony Pictures animation Hotel Transylvania 3 – A Monster Vacation on Thursday 31st October.  Taking place in the Orpen Hall, doors open at 2:30 pm for showtime at 3 pm.

Tickets are £5.00, including:

  • hot dog, drink & ice lolly for each child, and
  • hot dog, tea/coffee & biscuit treat for adults!

Another Nice Mess was the oft-heard catchphrase of Laurel & Hardy who are the subject of the Film Club’s latest offering Stan & Ollie.   The film follows Laurel and Hardy, the world’s most famous comedy duo, embark on what becomes their swan song – a gruelling theatre tour of post-war Britain.

Taking place in the Orpen Hall on Saturday 19th October, doors will open at 7 pm for showtime at 7:30 pm. Refreshments will be available.

The film is rated PG mainly because of mild bad language (e.g. bloody), & smoking (in keeping with the period and not glamourized).
