The Environment & Highways Committee of West Bergholt Parish Council met on 10th October 2019 and discussed:

  • Queen’s Road & Lexden Road Ponds,
  • potholes on Heath,
  • playground equipment
  • tree works over winter,
  • handymen & more.

Committee Meeting held on Thursday 10th October 2019 in Social Club meeting room

1.

Village Ponds

  Lexden Road Pond – Dredging to be done end of October. David to see and discuss with neighbours. Need an ecological survey – Laura to ask Environment Agency for advice. DS/

  Queen’s Road pond – Quote for repair and painting approved at Finance Committee. Laura to contact Adrian Leach Laura
  Hall Road pond – Some of the water plantain needs clearing. Chris, Phil and Norma to do. CS/PS/NS

Heath

  Potholes on footway have been patched.

Trip hazard near allotments has been patched.

3.

Playground equipment

  New equipment dependent on funding. A CIF grant of £5000 will be used to purchase a “nest” swing. The current swings could benefit from repainting Nigel to be asked to do this. Matting under swings will need replacing
David will investigate proposal to install a path along the back of the MUGA to the play area. DS

4.

Handymen Report

  Thanks to Phil for overseeing work of handymen over the last weeks. Following recent heavy rain the drainage system in New Church Road appears to be working.

Phil to contact John Glover to discuss what needs doing and where on the LD field, Poors Land and the Heath. This will be done at the end of October. The road sweeper will be booked for clearing up on Oct 30th. The bracken on the Heath will need flailing. The heather on the Heath will need staking off by the handymen beforehand. David and Phil to check required height of hedges on Orpen Field and Chapel Road.

Other items :-The back hedge of the allotments will need trimming.

The road sign “Bourne Road” needs replacing by CBC.

Water leaks in Bourne Road need to be dealt with by Anglian Water.

Kerbs by Mumford Oak need repair – handymen can do when Essex Highways supply the kerbs.

The Essex Devolution pilot continues. Terms of reference need to be written. David to contact Peter Cole to arrange a meet with himself, John and Phil.

6.

Winter Tree Work

  Nigel has assessed the state of our trees. Several trees need attention and possible removal.

Tree near Blue Bridge needs attention and grass needs cutting in this area.

Norma raised the subject of a Tree Charter – this will be discussed at our next meeting.

7.

Replacement Dog Bin

  CBC warden to be asked about this.

8.

Blocked drains at White Hart Lane.

  Laura to be asked to contact Essex Highways to request clearing of drains.
