Gardeners’ Summer Visits

Summer visits to Shrubs farmGardeners’ Summer Visits

The Gardeners’ summer visits this year started after their 2018/19 programme of talks came to a conclusion.  They were particularly happy that the weather remained on their side.

Shrubs Farm

In June, a group went on a self-drive trip to Shrubs Farm in Lamarsh, a garden in the National Garden Scheme.  The owners, Robert & Sara Erith have lived at the farm since 1966.  The farm has superb views over the Stour Valley.  Members were given an entertaining and informative tour of the garden, parkland and ancient woodland by the owner.  Robert explained the planning and ethos behind the beautiful planting and vistas.

Fullers Mill GardenFullers Mill

Fullers Mill Garden, West Stow, was the destination in July.  Members travelled by coach to this enchanting seven-acre site on the banks of the River Lark.  En route, they enjoyed a stop for lunch in Bury St Edmunds.  The gardens had been gifted in 2013 to the Perennial Charity, which is dedicated to helping horticultural workers in times of need.

Bressingham

The final trip in September was to Bressingham Gardens and Museum in Norfolk, a six-acre site developed by Alan Bloom.  Once again the sun shone.  All the groups trips this year have been very popular with members & guests so plans have already been made for next year!

Village Fete

At the Village Fete, in July, the Gardeners’ Committee, with help from members, ran a very successful stall.  They sold plants, jams and chutneys, and ran a lively tombola.  This all attracted lots of interest; proceeds of £350 from sales will be donated to the new Village Playground appeal.
