Day 24 of Lockdown – The “Wot No ….” Edition

Day 24 of Lockdown

Day 24 starts off being a day of cancellations, passes by some gratitude from the NHS and moves on to an inevitable lighter moment with a musical cups game to try with the kids.  Don’t forget to join the applause for those in the front line tonight!

Whilst recognising that the Village Bulletin is particularly appreciated by those without access to technology, the difficult Continue reading “Day 24 of Lockdown – The “Wot No ….” Edition”

Day 23 of Lockdown – Don’t Go Down To The Woods

Bluebells at Hillhouse Wood
Hillhouse Wood is renowned for its bluebell display every spring

Day 23 of Lockdown

Day 23 and the sun continued to shine down on us.  Wonderful with a bit of a but.  Each year our popular Hillhouse Wood becomes an attraction as the spring flowers create carpets of colour.  The paths, though, are rather narrow and social distancing will become a problem if the same numbers come along this year.

If you are not a  local resident can you please put off your visit until next year when, all being well, there will be no lockdown.  In other news:

Mediaeval PaintingOld Church Refurbishment

The last update on this project left us with the conservators planning how to deal with the Mediaeval Paintings discovered during refurbishment works.  Well, the plan now is to complete the refurbishment of the interior walls but leaving the paintings Continue reading “Day 23 of Lockdown – Don’t Go Down To The Woods”

Day 21 of Lockdown – The “Can You Make Scrubs?” Edition

Day 21 and there is a shortage of scrubs.Day 21 of Lockdown

Day 21 and we’ve managed to behave ourselves for 3 weeks!  There hasn’t been much official news over the holiday weekend but something did come up.  Ipswich & Colchester Hospitals are short of scrubs (and other stuff but that probably can’t be made at home).  We will also go for some light relief as well in the form of TWO musical treats.

Scrubs Appeal

If you want to keep track of what’s happening in our local hospital you can follow their news updates here.  It’s interesting to note that virtually all COVID-19 related deaths recorded at Colchester Continue reading “Day 21 of Lockdown – The “Can You Make Scrubs?” Edition”

Day 17 of Lockdown – The “Let’s Not Waste It” Edition

On day 17 you are encouraged not to go visiting

Day 17 of Lockdown

Day 17 of Lockdown and apparently the curve is beginning to flatten but, we aren’t out of the woods yet.  Hence our slightly macabre focal image today.

With a sunny ‘holiday weekend’ ahead we really can’t take a holiday from the lockdown although please do go outside your house this evening at 8 pm to clap for those who are supporting our society right now.

There is also one update from ECC and some, possibly slightly worrying, news from the Essex Resilience Forum.  We will finish with some lightening of the mood looking at some things that have got better.

Vulnerable Adults

ECC has introduced a new service to help vulnerable adults stay physically and mentally active during the COVID-19 outbreak.  The Stay Connected service Continue reading “Day 17 of Lockdown – The “Let’s Not Waste It” Edition”

Day 11 of Lockdown – The Sunshine Edition

Day 11 of Lockdown

On Day 11 of lockdown, we think about the 2 nurses, both mothers of 3, who died today.  Being on the front line, along with many in often-considered lowly jobs (posties, shop workers, dustmen etc…), we rightly thanked them last night at 8 pm and it was good to hear more noise this week than last!

So, some important, and one less so, items to discuss:

Sunshine

The lockdown is intended to help reduce the number of cases the NHS are asked to deal with.  By staying in we Continue reading “Day 11 of Lockdown – The Sunshine Edition”

Day 7 of Lockdown – The ‘Look After Yourself’ Edition

Asterix vs PandemixDay 7 of Lockdown

So, it’s day 7, coming to the end of the first week and we’re looking at the possibility of there being many more weeks.  Nerves are already fraying at webmaster’s house.  With that in mind, looking after yourself is a key imperative, that’s why we’ll inject humour from time to time, but our first item is from Public Health England (PHE).  Others are:

Guidance on Mental Health & Wellbeing

Over the weekend PHE published a document basically concerned with helping us preserve our sanity in these troubling times.  It addresses a wide range of things you can do to help with your mental health & wellbeing, many with links to external resources such as helplines and the NHS Fitness Studio: Continue reading “Day 7 of Lockdown – The ‘Look After Yourself’ Edition”

Day 4 of Lockdown – the Where’s Waldo Edition

Where's waldo social distancingDay 4 of Lockdown

Day 4 and not as much new news although it is almost a daily ritual now to hear about recycling.  Other snippets are:

Recycling (or not)

A little bit too late to help with yesterday’s collection but CBC announced shortly after the Day 3 update that each household may now put out an Continue reading “Day 4 of Lockdown – the Where’s Waldo Edition”

Day 3 of Lockdown – the Bohemian Rhapsody Edition

Day 3 launches enhanced Care NetworkDay 3 of Lockdown

The big news of day 3 of lockdown is the launch of the new enhanced Care Network for those self-isolating and in need of support.  Other items today include:

Launch of Enhanced Care Network for Pandemic

Great news today as we can now officially launch the scheme which aims to help those self-isolating or in need of a range of help from shopping to a chat.  The well-known and established West Bergholt Care Network has joined Continue reading “Day 3 of Lockdown – the Bohemian Rhapsody Edition”
