- Essex Police update you on their activities in Colchester;

Essex Police Local Update 14

Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston starts with an overview addressing dispersal orders in the town centre & speeding. A member of the public reported a crime which led to a speedy arrest by police. Leaders of a county line supplying drugs into Colchester have now been locked up. Two police officers received commendations. There is also an explanation of officers’ work undertaken with Essex University.
Safeguarding Children
There is a brief snippet about the risks to children using online games & social media. This week coincides with the Essex Safeguarding Children Board running a week of action from to raise awareness of a number of online safety topics, including online gaming, sending nudes images, keeping your details safe and age appropriateness. Closure of New Church Road
New Church Road will be closed for approximately 450m between its junction with Lexden Road to its junction with Chapel Road from 20th October . Essex County Council will be undertaking draining works during the closure. The closure is expected to last until 26th October.
An alternative route is available via Lexden Road, The Crescent, Colchester Road, Chapel Road and vice versa. Emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will have access at all times during the closure.
Digital Champions
The Essex Wellbeing Service are looking for community volunteers to help with an array of tasks such as:
- Buddy support for e.g. shopping, dog walking, physical activity, IT issues
- Food shopping
- Dog walking
- Keep a garden accessible (grass gutting and weed control)
- Medicine collecting
- Posting Mail
- Phone Friend
- Safeguarding door-step check
- Transport to hospital or GP
