BHYFC - Bergholt HeathBergholt Heath YFC – Results w/e 4th December

Last weekend saw a win, a draw and a loss…

BHYFC U8s & U10s

The Under 8s played what must have been a pulsating match against Stanway Rovers. The final result ended a draw, but a high scoring one at that.

Our Under 10s were away against Eight Ash Green the team they drew against a couple of weeks ago.  Although most of the match was a close affair, EAG had the better of the latter stages and ended up winning.

BHYFC U12s vs Stanway Villa Whites

Another good win from the Under 12s this week.

After last week’s excellent performance the Bergholt manager was hoping that the boys would take this standard of football into this week’s home match.  Unfortunately for the first half of the match the lads were unable to reproduce this form as the visitors took control of the match as hesitancy in the tackle proved decisive as it was from one of Stanway’s many attacks that they opened the scoring.

This kicked Bergholt into life and they started to mount their own attacks and after Oliver missed two opportunities to score, Bergholt got the equaliser when a cross from the left was headed past his own ‘keeper by the Stanway defender.  Stanway’s misfortune was further compounded when their ‘keeper had to leave the field through injury leaving them with 8 players.  This didn’t seem to hinder them too much, though, as they regained the lead with a fine strike past James.  HT 1-2.

Second Half

At half-time it was clear to all that the Bergholt manager was not too impressed with his team’s first half horror show.  He ensured the boys were left in doubt they needed to up their game significantly.  To their credit they did start much brighter but were dealt a big blow when Stanway extended their lead soon after the break.  The striker slotted the ball through James’s legs and despite a great effort from Billy the ball ended in the Bergholt net.

So at 3-1 down and looking at the possibility of their first home defeat of the season, the Bergholt boys finally started to play the football we know they can do and staged an amazing comeback.   Their first comeback goal came from a great cross-field ball from Thomas to put in Oliver, whose sweetly struck first-time shot gave the ‘keeper no chance.

Tails Up

With their tails now up Bergholt pressed for the equaliser.  This time the move came from the left as Oscar’s through ball put speed merchant James P clear.  He too despatched his shot with some aplomb.  At this point the Stanway ‘keeper was fit enough to continue and Stanway were back to 9 players and were seeking to get the lead back.  They nearly did but James made a smashing save and, with this, confidence grew again in the Bergholt team and they sought to get the lead for the first time.

With ten minutes to go the decisive blow came when Tommy was fouled in the area and a penalty awarded.  He dusted himself off and took the penalty which, despite the best efforts of the ‘keeper, the ball found the back of the net.

In Front

Bergholt found themselves in front for the first time in the match.  They then furthered this lead when Freddie won an important challenge on the right wing.  He slipped it to Tommy whose jinking run was again halted in the box when the Stanway defender upended the midfield dynamo.  For the second time in five minutes he put the ball on the spot and for the second time scored as this time he gave the ‘keeper no chance.  FT 5-3.

The final score was harsh on Stanway who gave it all despite being a player down for two-thirds of the match, but for Bergholt it was an amazing turnaround where this week it was a case of result over performance.

Bergholt Heath player of the match: Joseph Watkins – some great carrying of the ball out of defence.
