Day 49 of Lockdown – the Christian Aid edition

Hand washing on day 49Day 49 of Lockdown

Day 49 and we hark back to 7 weeks ago when we were first taught to wash our hands frequently whilst singing happy birthday twice.  Who’d have thought that Christian Aid uses the money donated for such things as teaching folks how to wash their hands?  The picture right is of a hand-washing clinic run by Judith Lassie in the village of Sawula, Sierra Leone.  There are some links to some videos from VE-Day 75 celebrations & also here a bit of comedy and some music.

Christian Aid Week

West Bergholt has a long tradition of generously supporting Christian Aid week. Usually, the church communities in the village come together and jointly carry out the house to house collections. Last year there was also the innovation of the “Big Brekkie” which proved popular with many folks. Unfortunately, it is not possible to undertake any such activities this year. However, Christian Aid week is still taking place but it can only be online. Sadly there is still a great need for the support that Christian Aid offers communities; many of these communities struggle to access medical facilities, clean water and sanitation that we take for granted. If/when the virus reaches them dealing with it will be extremely challenging.

On TV

You may have seen the Christian Aid appeal on TV. There are many worthwhile causes appealing for funds at this difficult time. Any donation you can make will be gratefully received. Further details on donations appear below.

Christian Aid Week 2020 runs from Sunday 10th May to Saturday 16th May. The present circumstances mean that Christian Aid Week will look very different this year – no House to House collection, no Soup and Snack Lunch, no Quiz, in fact nothing that involves physical contact with others. Despite this Christian Aid Week goes ahead – digitally!!

Where will it go?

Rose needs Christian AidRose needs every last drop of water to survive the drought. This Christian Aid Week, please join with us and donate to help her stop this climate crisis.

Droughts are now more frequent and more intense due to the climate crisis. Rose and her family, and millions of people in Kenya, are struggling to get enough food and water.

Your gift could help a community to build an earth dam, so that when the rains do come, they will have the water they need to live.

People like Rose need every last drop to survive the drought – and to keep healthy when the corona virus hits.

Thank you for your support
