Lexden Road Closure – Buses Update

Lexden Road Closure – Buses Update

Lexden Road Closure Buses Following further discussions with bus companies we are now able to provide a fuller update on bus routes and stops in use whilst the sewers are repaired in Lexden Road (expected to be until Wednesday 9th September but could be longer).

All buses that would normally complete the “West Bergholt loop” will now be running up and down Chapel Road only, using Mumford Road and Donard Drive to turn around.  Only the Chambers 753/754 will continue along Colchester Road as a whole, the other buses will not be running along Lexden Road or the top part of Colchester Road by the Treble Tile (see map).

The following bus services will be affected:

  • 17 – Hedingham School Service – West Bergholt to Stanway School
  • 755 / 756 – Chambers School Service – West Bergholt to Norman Way Schools
  • 66 – First Essex – West Bergholt to Colchester/Old Heath
  • 67b – First Essex – West Bergholt to West Mersea

Please wait for your buses at the waiting areas along Chapel Road and only the part of Colchester Road past the roundabout to the Maltings where the school buses would normally stop.

Lexden Road Closed

Recommended Alternative Route

Lexden Road Closed

Apologies for late notice on this but we have been advised that due to a sewer collapse requiring urgent works, Lexden Road will be closed to traffic for most of the distance between Sackville Way and Orpen Close.  The closure took effect from 25th August and could last for up to 21 days (15th September).

Emergency & Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, any enquiries to Anglian Water’s contractor on 01449 678932.

The recommended alternative route, being more appropriate for through traffic rather than local journeys, is via Colchester Road and Chapel Road.

Update

Following an enquiry about buses, we have contacted First (66 & 67) who assure us that all bus stops remain open but that there is a diversionary route through Mumford & Donard Roads – it is expected that other operators will do similar, please advise if you find different.

Road Closures February 2015

Essex County CouncilRoad Closures February 2015

Essex Highways Department have announced a large list of road closures affecting large parts of the Colchester & Braintree areas from 9th February.  The Temporary Closure Notice states that:

The closures are scheduled to commence within 18 months from 09 February 2015 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting, and are required for the safety of the public and workforce while highway maintenance works are undertaken. Exact dates of the road closures will be notified via advanced warning signage on sites. Letters to residents and other affected or interested parties advising of the works/dates and other relevant information will also be sent out at least 2 weeks in advance.

Those closures where the diversion route crosses over into another County or use the A12 and A120 are subject to the approval of the relevant County Council or the Highways Agency.

Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.

The Order will come into effect on 09 February 2015 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

The following appear to be those ‘closest to home’ but the best advice seems to be to look out for the yellow advance warning signs!

Ipswich Road/East Street Closure 17-21 June 2013

Essex County Council have notified us of a future road closure in Ipswich Road from the East Street junction in Colchester.  This will start at 08:00 on 17 June 2013 and last for 5 days.  The closure is required in order to “repair consequential damage”.

The road will be closed from its junction with East Street, in a generally north-easterly direction for a distance of approximately 50 metres.  The alternative route will be via Ipswich Road, A133, East Street and vice versa.

Access to properties for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained during the closure but may be subject to delay whilst the works area is made safe.

Spring Lane Bridge Closure

Spring Lane Bridge

Later this year, provisionally early August onwards, Essex County Council (ECC) will be replacing the bridge in Spring Lane. This bridge has been deteriorating for some time and subject to a weight limit. Engineers now believe replacement is the only viable option. The proposed replacement will be programmed for a 28 week duration, which will require the road to be closed at the bridge for the entirety of the scheme. A temporary footbridge will be available for cyclists and pedestrians.

The new structure will be designed to modern standards and have a design lifespan of 120 years. Whilst ECC appreciates the existing bridge is a particularly nice form of structure, it is not fit for use and will pose a risk to all users if the issues with it are not addressed. Nonetheless, they are looking at ways of incorporating the design of the existing bridge into the new structure; however this is in the early stages and subject to budgetary constraints.

Update on New A12 Junction for North Colchester

Work has been proceeding apace and the 2nd-3rd October road closure is going ahead as scheduled in order to connect the link roads to the A12 (see website for detail). The new junction will serve an area of redevelopment land to the south of the A12, in the vicinity of the Weston Homes Community Stadium, and will enable the development of
residential areas and other mixed uses. It will form a direct link between the A12 and
the new Northern Approaches Road (Phase 3), and also serve the relocated BP Services and the proposed Park & Ride. The full news update can be downloaded from our website here.
