Nominations have now closed for the 2021 Elections
6th May 2021 Elections will take place for:
- Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner for the Essex Police Area;
- One County Councillor to represent the Constable Division; and
- One Borough Councillor to represent the Lexden & Braiswick ward.
Candidates for each of these are listed below. If you haven’t already checked out the COVID-Safe arrangements you can read about those further down. It is still not too late to register to vote – details also below.
Borough Council – Lexden & Braiswick Ward
- BAMFORTH, Roger Edwin for the Green Party,
- CULHAM, Sandra Joy for the Liberal Democrats,
- HAYES, Luke for the Labour Party,
- LEATHERDATE, Martin for the Conservative Party,
- RIPPINGALE-SHAW, Kayleigh for the Labour Party, and
- WILLETTS, Dennis for the Conservative Party.
In this election you may vote for TWO candidates.
Essex County Council – Constable Division
- BACON, Pauline Ann for the Labour & Co-operative Party,

Election of a Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner – Essex Police Area
- HIRST, Roger for the Conservative Party,
- TILBROOK, Robin Charles William for English Democrats – “More Police – Catching Criminals!”
- VINCE, Chris for the Labour & Co-operative Party, and
- WHITEHOUSE, Jon for the Liberal Democrats.

You have until by midnight on Monday 19 April 2021 to register. Applications can be made online https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
How to Vote
You can vote in a number of ways. The ‘in-person’ voting will take place in the Orpen Hall this year to better facilitate social distancing. As an extra precautionary measure, though, you may want the convenience of a postal vote. Please click here for more information and to download a form.
In Person
Orpen Hall will be open between 7 am to 10 pm. You will need to:
- Wear a face covering unless you have a valid exemption,
- Bring your own pen or pencil,
- Follow the signs and guidance from staff at teh station to adhere to social distancing.
By Post
If you want to apply for, or change or cancel, a postal vote, you have until 5 pm on Tuesday 20th April to do so. Completed applications can be submitted either as a scanned copy emailed to [email protected] or via post to Electoral Services, Rowan House, Sheepen Road, Colchester, CO3 3WG.
By Proxy
You can apply for somebody else to vote on your behalf – the deadline for this is 5 pm on Tuesday 27th April.
Emergency Proxy
If you become incapacitated after 5 pm on 27th April such that you are no longer physically capable (or allowed if isolating), of voting in person, provision exist for an Emergency Proxy to be granted. Apply to the Electoral Registration Officer up to 5pm on Election Day at Rowan House, 33 Sheepen Road, CO3 3WG.
