Easter craft activities at Blue OwlIf you are looking for something crafty to do over the Easter holidays why not try your hand at:

  • decorating a mug (3rd & 10th April – £2.50),
  • doing some scratch art (4th & 11th April – making a book mark (50p) or key ring (£1)),
  • making a mobile (9th April – bird house design or jungle animal £1.50 or snake £1) or maybe
  • doing some decopatching (5th & 12th April – small box or heart – £2.50).

There’s no need to book, just turn up at Blue Owl, 10a Colchester Road, between 10:30 – 3:30 on each day although please note children must be supervised.

Friends of St Mary’s Old Church – AGM & Illustrated Talk

Friends of St Mary’s Old Church will be holding their first AGM on Wednesday 20 February at 7.30pm in the New Church, New Church Road.

The AGM will be followed by an illustrated talk by John Vigar entitled “Churches in Retirement”.  John is a Trustee of The Friends of Friendless Churches, which is now the government body for redundant churches in Wales.  He also works for The Churches Conservation Trust in England, which makes him the ideal speaker on the subject.

Light refreshments will be served from 7pm.

Coffee & Cakes for St Helena Hospice

A Coffee and Cake Morning, in aid of St. Helena Hospice, is being arranged for Tuesday 26th February (9am – 12pm).

At St. Mary’s Church Hall, Church Close West Bergholt, there will be freshly brewed tea and coffee, cold drinks, delicious home-made cakes plus a raffle will be on offer.  There will also be a play area for small children.

A donation of £2 for a drink and a cake is requested.

Roast TurkeyThirty-two hardy soles braved the winter snows this Saturday to sit down and enjoy Roast Turkey, stuffing, chipolata, roast potatoes, mixed veg and gravy followed by choice of Crumble, Treacle  or Minced tart & Custard, Coffee and After Eight Mints, all served by the “Friends of St Mary’s Church” .

Thanks to our helpers and people who supplied the Desserts and don’t forget to look out for our next quarterly get together.

Winter Bird Walk – 2nd February

Poster for Hillhouse Wood winter bird walkSteve Hallam will lead a winter bird walk in and around Hillhouse Wood on Saturday 2nd February.

The walk will afford the opportunity to see resident woodland and meadow species as well as some winter visitors.

Meeting at the Old Church at 9:30am (weather permitting), it is advised that you wear stout footwear and warm clothing and to bring a flask of hot drink.

The thrills and spills with Orpen Players are set to begin on the 25th January and the run continues until the 2nd February.    This great show has been written and directed by the Players’ own Peter Cox, and tells the thrilling tale of Dick Whittington.  Join them on a spectacular adventure that will lead you from the Docks of London to the Shores of Morocco.  Climb aboard the Saucy Sally and take to the high seas with a cast packed to the gunnels with familiar faces in a show that is set to be one of the Orps finest.
