Les Mis to Lion King is the topic of the next WI presentation on Wednesday 1st February at the Orpen Hall at 7:15pm.  A lot of new members joined West Bergholt WI in 2016 – why don’t you come along and try the W.I. on Feb 1st for FREE?

Martyn Harrison

The presenter of this talk, Martyn Harrison, worked for 40 years as  a  professional Opera Singer.  His career has now diversified, with time, into several associated areas of the Performing Arts.

  • Vocal Coach.

As a Tenor he has worked with Major Opera Companies including ROH [Garden Venture], Glyndebourne [8 years], New Sadler’s Wells and New D’Oyly Carte plus English National Opera, Kent Opera, Pimlico Opera, Opera at Holland Park, Cambridge Opera, Opera Restor’d and guesting with numerous other festival and regional groups.

As a Stage Director he has directed over 180 shows ranging from Pantomime to Grand Opera.  He tours extensively as a Guest Speaker on Music Theatre, Operetta & Opera in the UK, Germany & Australia.

It’s Panto time again folks and the Orpen Players can’t wait to delight you. This years panto is the classic fairy tale of Jack & the Beanstalk, which has been brought to life, in a NEW version, with a brand new script written exclusively for the Orpen Players by David Wenden. This is going to be a great show and full of all the usual thrills and spills, and a classic sing-along-sound track!

There are 6 performances with tickets (priced £6 adults and £4 children) now available either from Ash’s or from Roger on 241048.

Performance times are:

  • 30th Jan at 2pm and 6pm
  • 5th Feb at 8pm
  • 6th Feb at 2pm and 8pm

84 Charing Cross Road


… is the title of the Orpen Players’ spring production. The plot is based on real-life with a humorous script-reader in her New York apartment seeing an ad in the Saturday Review of Literature for a bookstore in London that does mail order. She begins a very special correspondence and friendship with Frank Doel, the bookseller who works at Marks & Co., 84 Charing Cross Road. The relationship lasted over 20 years without them ever actually meeting.

The box office at Ash’s store Colchester Road opens on Saturday 18 April. Tickets are £5 for Thursday 30 April and £6 for Friday and Saturday, May1/2. Doors open 7.30pm curtain up 8pm.

Orpen Players Go Online with Aladdin

The Orpen players have just launched their new website which announces their upcoming presentation of Aladdin.  They will be running 6 shows between 30th January and 7th February (including two matinee performances).  To find out more visit their website here or check the village calendar on the village website.
