Seniors Lunch in St Mary’s Church Hall 19 January 2013
Thirty-two hardy soles braved the winter snows this Saturday to sit down and enjoy Roast Turkey, stuffing, chipolata, roast potatoes, mixed veg and gravy followed by choice of Crumble, Treacle or Minced tart & Custard, Coffee and After Eight Mints, all served by the “Friends of St Mary’s Church” .
Thanks to our helpers and people who supplied the Desserts and don’t forget to look out for our next quarterly get together.

Trees for Years – Free Trees
Trees for Years Initiative – Free Trees for Residents
Saturday 2nd February 2013
The 7th Trees for Years Initiative sponsored by OfficeIS will be held at Rowan House Council Offices Car Park off Sheepen Road between 10am -1pm.
Free trees will be given away to Borough Residents, Community Groups, Schools and Parish Council’s. Residents can collect up to 3 plants per household and up to 20 per community group, School and Parish Council.
The following species will be available:
- Raspberry canes
- Blackcurrant canes
- Gooseberry bush
- Blackberry root
- Acer campestre – Field Maple
- Prunus padus – Bird Cherry
- Betula pendula – Silver Birch
- Corylus avellana – Hazel cob nut
- Cornus alba ‘Siberica’ – Red Stem dogwood
- Cornus stolonifera ‘Flaviramea’ – Yellow stem Dogwood
2013 bare root trees/fruit bushes will be available on a first come first serve basis:
- Trees must be planted on private property and postcodes will be recorded to monitor the distribution.
- Cultivation guidance will be available so that trees can be selected, taking into account the ultimate size and form of mature trees.
- Remember to bring a large bag to put your trees in.

Gershwin to Gaga
is the theme of the next West Bergholt Concert Band concert. Featuring music from the likes of Gershwin, of course, Coldplay, John Williams, Stevie Wonder, Wicked & Gaga the concert will be held on Saturday July 16th, 7:30pm, in St Mary’s Church Hall to mark its re-opening.
As always, all of the band’s concerts are raising money for local & national charities. This year’s charities will include Myasthenia Research, Coggeshall Youth Work Trust, Clacton Family Support, Headway, Lepra and our local Church Charities.

Free Music Workshops
… with West Bergholt Concert Band on Saturday 16th October, 2:30-4:30pm in West Bergholt’s St Mary the Virgin Church.
A distinguishing feature of the West Bergholt Training Band is the regular Music Workshops, which the band holds. They are free and are open to all woodwind and brass players. There is no audition but you will need to read music. Members of the concert band will also be playing so you will have the opportunity to play interesting music with more experienced musicians.
The session will include a range of musical styles from jazz to light classics, pop songs, music from the shows.
The enjoyment does not end there. There is the opportunity to join the Training Band which meets on Friday evenings at the Heathlands School in West Bergholt. For more information on the bands have a look at our website, www.wbcb.org.

Autumn events season under-way
As everybody gets back from summer two clubs’ events are introducing the autumn season.
The Colne Valley Flower Club start their season on 15th September with a demonstration by Joyce Furssdonn with her arrangements based on the title ‘Inspire and Enjoy’. For further information ‘phone Clare on 01206 241145 or visit the club’s page on the village website.
