Traffic Safety Update

Last summer the Parish Council adopted a Traffic Safety Plan which has its origins in the Parish Plan and has as its aim an enhancement of levels of safety in the village.  This plan has been developed by the Environment and Highways Committee of the Parish Council as a result of the ongoing and increasing concerns of village residents.

A principal objective of the traffic plan is to improve all aspects of safety in the region of  Heathlands School and the surrounding feeder roads.  To achieve this measures are needed that will help to slow traffic, restrict parking that is irresponsible in dangerous areas and at the same time  provide alternative parking for parents that find it necessary to use a car to transport their children to school.

The plan contains a number of proposals for relatively minor structural work in New Church Road and School Lane.  These include parking restrictions at the junctions at each end of New Church Road, better signage to improve awareness of the school and a build out from the footpath from Mumford Close.  These plans have now been considered for implementation by the Local Highways Panel and it is good to report that all have been approved.  It is pleasing to know that if ideas that come forward from the village are put into a plan and discussed with the authorities concerned they can be developed into realistic projects.  As yet there is no news of when the work will take place but the village will be kept informed.

For its part the Parish Council has considered ways of providing alternative parking.  The Orpen Hall car park will be resurfaced and facilities improved.  The works mentioned above will enhance safety for the walk from the car park to school.  The Treble Tile has agreed that, subject to certain conditions, its car park can be used at school drop off and pick up times.  To make safe the walk from here to school a new footpath parallel to School Lane is being installed along the edge of Poors Land.

Throughout this process the Parish Council is in dialogue with the school to ensure that as these modifications are put into place maximum advantage for all concerned is achieved by them.  A full copy of The Safety Plan can be obtained by E-mail from The Parish Clerk or Harry Stone at  [email protected] or alternatively it can be viewed on this website.

… but every time we get heavy snowfall, whilst great fun for many, it still brings hazardous conditions underfoot.  So we offer our congratulations and thanks to the group of 20 volunteers who worked hard to keep pavements in key areas of the village cleared during the snow and ice that came in January, helping to keep the areas safer for all of us.

We always welcome more volunteers to help keep our village safe if we have any further snowfall this winter.

Weather continues to play havoc with local sport…

Bergholt Heath YFC – Results Sunday 27th January 2013

All scheduled fixtures were postponed again this week – not necessarily due to the residual snow, but mainly due to the quick thaw making the pitches unplayable.

Fixtures – 3rd February 2013

Next weeks fixtures Sunday 3rd February should take place as scheduled, but actually it’s only the younger teams playing ‘mini soccer’ that have official games:

  • Stanway Villa Yellows vs Under 8
  • Under 10 vs Lexden Saints Blues, KO 10am
  • Under 14 – No game
  • Under 18 – No game

Local Changes to NHS

NHS North East Essex - Clinical Commissioning Group - Embracing better health for all

We have recently received the following letter from this new body which will affect how local NHS services are delivered to you.  Our local surgery is unlikely to be affected to us but services beyond that point might see some change as a consequence.

23rd January 2013

Dear Colleagues

We are delighted to inform you that North East Essex NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been authorised by the NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB) to take over commissioning responsibilities from NHS North Essex (the PCT cluster) from April 2013.

North East Essex CCG is very much ready to take over this important statutory duty of commissioning health services for local people in the Colchester and Tendring districts. The authorisation was granted with one condition at the lowest level of concern. That condition is about providing written evidence of collaboration agreements with our partner CCGs nearby, and we are confident that these conditions will be fully satisfied by March 2013.

We are very grateful for the immense support from local people and our partner organisations.  The scrutiny of our readiness has been very detailed and robust including a 360 degree stakeholder survey, the submission of detailed reports and supporting documents, site visits and assessments by members of the NHS Commissioning Board panel. An incredible amount of hard work and dedication has been put in by the CCG team and constituent GP practices over the last two years. With authorisation comes added determination to achieve our commitment to improving the health outcomes, quality of care and patient experience for our local population.

During the build-up to authorisation, we have been highly rated within the NHS in the East of England.  We will continue to build the organisation so that it has the ability to ensure we are addressing the health priorities and needs of local people. We should all be very proud of the teams of managers and clinicians that have worked extremely hard to achieve this and continue to help take our organisation from strength to strength.

Authorisation is not an end in itself. It is the start of an on-going process to ensure that the new clinical commissioning system will deliver high quality health services and better outcomes for local communities. We are very conscious that we are part of a wider NHS and public services system, so we will work very closely with partners such as the other Essex CCGs, local government organisations and our provider organisations.

Along with all our colleagues in the CCG, we would like to thank you for your continued support and we look forward to working together with you in the future to commission the best health services for people in North East Essex.

Yours sincerely

Dr Gary Sweeney                                                      Dr Shane Gordon

New Editor needed for “The Bulletin”

West Bergholt Bulletin banner, December 2012
Could this be the last edition?

After nine years of producing the West Bergholt Bulletin, Bernard Colbron has decided it is time to move aside and invite someone else to take over.  He said:

I have enjoyed working on the Bulletin and probably will miss it.  I would like to thank all the people who have supported the Bulletin, including the correspondents from the various clubs and societies in the village.
So, the Editorship is now up for grabs, anyone who is interested on taking on the position should contact either  the Parish Clerk or, to find out more about what the role entails, call Bernard on 01206 240297.
