Lexden Saints vs BHYFC Under 13s

The 13s have seen a fair bit of player movement over the summer but started the new campaign in excellent fashion.  The first game of the season saw Bergholt make the trip across town to play Lexden Saints.  Last season Lexden finished 3rd in the D League whilst Bergholt finished 4th so a close game was expected.

Took Control

Bergholt kicked off and immediately took control of the game and in the first 15 minutes of the match they passed the ball around superbly.  A number of opportunities came and went before the first goal of the game came when Nat got on the ball just inside the Lexden half and then burst down the right wing before cutting in and smashing the ball past the keeper from the corner of the six-yard box.

Bergholt then nearly doubled their lead when Harrison’s shot with his less-favoured right foot hit the crossbar before they surrendered their lead when the Lexden left winger was allowed to run down the wing unopposed and lashed the ball past James.  HT 1-1.

Ebbing & Flowing

After the half-time break the game ebbed and flowed with both sides looking to get their noses ahead.  Due to the lack of subs available to both teams, tiredness took hold as the standard of football dipped.  That said it was another touch of class from Nat that saw him restore Bergholt’s lead.  This bolstered the blues and again the crossbar was to deny Bergholt a further goal when Thomas’s shot looked destined for the top corner.

The visitors then increased their lead and with it helped calm their manager’s nerves when Nat finished off a jinking run by poking the ball past the advancing keeper for his, and Bergholt’s, third of the match.  FT 3-1.

A great performance by the team today with some super passing erasing bad memories of the pre-season tournament the week before….

Bergholt player of the match: Nat Mardell – hat-trick hero.
