Women’s Institute August 2016 Update
Recent activity in West Bergholt WI
Newly elected joint Presidents are Sheila Boxshall and Manya Barrow. West Bergholt W.I. Membership now stands at 55.
In June, members brought cakes, which they donate once a year to St Helena Hospice, for visitors and patients afternoon teas. The speaker that month was Sheila Gunson with her talk entitled ‘The Bag Lady’. She showed her audience numerous bags, large and small, which she makes from a variety of materials using many different methods to create all kinds of styles.
The July meeting was our Strawberry Soiree. Members enjoyed strawberries and cream and shortbread biscuits. Following a recent influx of new members, a “getting to know you” game took place, revolving around hobbies and interests; it was a great success.
At the August meeting, President Sheila welcomed 2 visitors and the speaker was David Ablewhite, who gave an enlightening talk entitled ‘Queen Victoria’s 12 Men’. All of them had influenced her life during her long reign and many interesting facts were revealed. A fund raising stall of scarves and bags was well supported and unsold items have gone to the Hospice warehouse.
A croquet ‘taster evening’ has been arranged for members in August following the success of the one in June.
At the September meeting, a local lady, Kate Penrose will give the WI a talk entitled ‘From Tree to Juice’, about the Manor Farm Orchards.. Members will be having a mini ploughman’s supper.
Outings are planned for the rest of the year, and December will be our Christmas Party month, with supper and entertainment.
