Vicar of Dibley, History & Art

The first of three events coming up at St Mary’s Old Church, will be a wedding for a Vicar of Dibley play.  This will be followed by an illustrated history talk and an art exhibition.

Vicar of Dibley – 27th April

This will be the Orpen Players next production and the wedding scene between Hugo and Alice will be filmed in the Old Church. Everyone, young and old, is invited to get dressed in suitable clothes to take part in the wedding ceremony. Ladies – this is an opportunity for you dust off your favourite wedding hat and give it another airing.

Details

  • The date & time is Saturday 27th April, please arrive at 2 pm.
  • Filming takes approx. 1hour (2:15 pm-3:15 pm)
  • All are welcome although those under 16 should be accompanied by an adult as the Players need permission from all participants to be filmed.
  • Please wear ‘wedding guest’ attire from the waist up as this will be seen on camera.
  • Production dates will be 9th, 10th & 11th May; you can get your tickets from Roger on 01206 241048 or from Ashes Store West Bergholt (from 27th April).  Tickets are priced at £8.

History Talk – 18th May

Local historian & Chairman of the Local History Group, Peter Noakes, will be bringing the history of the Old Church to life at 2:30 pm on Saturday 18th May.  His talk, titled “St Mary’s Through Time”, will describe interesting historical features and facts backed up by slide illustrations.  Refreshments will be available and accompanied children are welcome.

Art Exhibition – 15-16th June

The Friends of St Mary’s are organising an Art Exhibition in the Old Church. They will welcome budding and established artists. There is no charge to exhibit or to visit the exhibition but they would be grateful to receive donations towards the cost of caring for the old church.

Submit framed and/or mounted paintings, for sale or purely for display.   To enable planning of the exhibition you should register your intention to submit an exhibit by st June.  For more information contact Jane Lloyd or Gill Poole:
