Rise! World Day of Prayer
Rise! is the topic of the World Day of Prayer this year as discussed in St Mary’s latest edition of their News Update. Other topics addressed include:
- the Care for God’s creation Lent Group,
- Tidying the Churchyard,
- Breakfast for Men,
- 3 Parishes Service with Bishop Stephen,
- 5Ts Friendship Lunch.
It also provides listings of services and contacts but first, “Rise! Take your mat & walk”.
Women’s World Day of Prayer
We will be joining once again with our friends from West Bergholt Methodist Church to celebrate Women’s World Day of Prayer on Friday 6th March. The service will be held at St Mary’s Church and there will be a soup lunch at 12:30 followed by the service at 1.30 pm.
This year’s service has been prepared by the Christian women of Zimbabwe who call on us to ‘Rise! Take your mat and walk’. We will be encouraged to reflect on the unrest that has plagued their country over many years and invited to support them as they journey towards reconciliation.
All are welcome, including men and under 5’s. If you would like to come to lunch beforehand, please could you let Kate Penrose know ([antibot mailto=”[email protected]”]) so that she can cook enough soup!
Care for God’s Creation
Care for God’s creation is St Mary’s Lent Group running during March on Mondays @ 7.45 pm in the church hall – 9, 16, 23 & 30 March.
Environmental issues are at the forefront of everyone’s minds today. Come and find out how God might be calling his church to care for his creation! The sessions are based on the Archbishop of Canterbury’s recommended Book, written by theologian and environmental activist Ruth Valerio. All are welcome! Contact [antibot mailto=”[email protected]”].
Tidying the Churchyard
We will be tidying the churchyard on Saturday 14th March between 9.30 am and 12 noon. This will include trimming hedges and grass, collecting leaves and tidying the graves. Diocesan regulations mean that artificial flowers are not allowed, except wreaths at Christmas & Remembrance. More details of the regulations can be found here.
If any items are removed from graves they will be kept until 12 April so that families can come and collect them if they so wish.
Breakfast for Men (&Kids!)
Calling men of all ages! You are warmly invited to drop in for a light breakfast at the church between 9am & 11am on Satuday 21st March. Dads with younger children are very welcome to bring them too as there will be activities for the kids. Give Mum a morning off this Mother’s Day weekend!
There is no charge but a small donation to cover costs would be appreciated.
3 Parishes Joint Service with the Bishop of Chelmsford
We are delighted that Bishop Stephen Cottrell will be coming to lead our joint 3 Parishes Service on 29th March. As many of you know, he has recently been appointed Archbishop of York, and this will be one of his last services in the Diocese before he moves to York. Bishop Stephen’s talks are always very interesting and we hope as many people as possible will be able to join us for this special occasion.
5Ts Friendship Lunch
The next 5Ts Friendship Club lunch will be held on Saturday 4th April in the church hall @ 12.45 pm. If you know someone who would enjoy some company and a nice cooked lunch, please do invite them along. Contact Murray Harlow 242007, or Kate Penrose [antibot mailto=”[email protected]”] to book your place.
The 5Ts club meets every Thursday afternoon in the church hall between 2.30pm—4pm for cake and a chat. New people are always welcome!
