Forgotten Gardens, Transport & Aviation

The past two months have seen the History Group visiting the Forgotten Gardens and Ipswich Transport Museum.

This month they will be visiting the East Essex Aviation Musem in the Martello Tower at St Osyth.  This trip is on  Wednesday 19th June; why not contact the Group’s Secretary, Gill Poole on 01206 240512, to reserve a place if you are interested in coming along.  (Members are £3 and Non Members are £6).

Forgotten Gardens

In April  Sue Gilbert, one of the Trustees at Easton Lodge (near Great Dunmow) gave members and guests of the History Group a very interesting guided tour of the Forgotten Gardens.   These gardens are only open to the public on certain occasions during the year.  As well as being worth exploring they are also very interesting from a historical perspective. Easton Lodge was at some time the home of the Duchess of Warwick and she had a well-known Royal Visitor!

The Group called in at Little Easton Church which is just along the road whilst driving back towards Great Dunmow.

Transport Museum

In May they visited the Transport Museum in Ipswich and had the pleasure of being shown round by Martin Long who lives in West Bergholt; Martin has been a long time member of the volunteers at the Museum.  This was a fascinating experience to have the opportunity to have a special visit to the Museum & see the restoration taking place.  Members all said that they could have spent all day there and they will revisit the Museum.
