The Minories

The next Local History Group meeting will learn about The Minories in Colchester. Max Fox will lead this meeting which will take place on April 13th starting at 7:30 pm. Max has been a Tour Guide in Colchester for 28 years, a former Minories manager for Colchester Institute and a traveller through many ruins who has a passion for history.

As ever, all are welcome for a modest charge of £2 for members and £5 for visitors. Next month the group start their summer visits, the first being to Harwich Museum on Wednesday 11th May. If you would like more information about talks or visits please contact [email protected].

Garden Design & Herbaceous Perennials

Herbaceous Perennials & Other Topics

West Bergholt Gardeners didn’t meet in January so the first meeting of 2022 on 21st February has speaker Neil Ludmon talking about the “History of the use of Herbaceous Perennials. On 21st March they will be learning of “Current Trends in Garden Design” from Steven Digby.

Their trips out have always been popular so this year they have provisionally booked a self drive visit to Utling Wick in September and coach trips to East Rushton in July and RHS Hyde Hall “Glow” in November. Guests are welcome to join them on these visits.

The Local History Group gave villagers an insight into Edwardian West Bergholt at the recent Village Fete.  The History Group manned a stall which included a display discussing West Bergholt during the Edwardian period.

Aviation, done, next trip Gainsborough House

Having visited the Aviation Museum this month the History Group are looking forward to visiting the Gainsborough House Musem.

If attending this next trip you should meet up at the museum in Sudbury at 10:30 am on Wednesday 17th July. It is very important you pre-book this trip so the museum is prepared for the numbers; book by calling Gill Poole on 01206 240512 by 10th July.
