Members present:Cllrs John Gili-Ross (JGR) via Zoom, Katie Pulford (KP), Harry Stone and David Short (DS)
Also present:No members of the public

1.     Welcome & Apologies

Apologies were received from Cllrs Manya Barrow (who arrived at 5:00pm) and James Owers.

2.     Declarations of Interests

None.

3.     Minutes & actions from previous meeting

The minutes of the 11th April 2024 were agreed by all and there were no actions carried forward.

4.     Public participation

There were no members of the public present.

5.     Handymen’s report:

  • Responding to comments by residents, JGR stated that the grass cutting of the areas that we are responsible for, was proceeding as normal, but CCC has reduced their cutting programme.
  • Litter picking takes place as needed.
  • The cherry trees behind the Football Club need attention and the handymen are reducing branches where possible.
  • They are checking benches and treating as necessary.
  • Also, work is taking place on painting the Youth Shelter. The roof needs resurfacing and HS is to seek approval at the next Finance Committee meeting to obtain quotes for this work.

6.     Staff changes

Members were asked to consider if they could propose a replacement for Nigel, if not, the post should be advertised at the end of the month.

7.     New shed

The work on this is ongoing and we are waiting to hear if David Hewitt can do the modifications needed on the doors.

8.     D-Day flag and flagpole

Two quality flags (one for Heathlands School) are to be purchased and a wall mounting at a cost of up to £400 as agreed at the PC meeting. (ACTION – JGR to send details to LW to order)

A better quote for a permanent flagpole is being sought and it is hoped to attract more sponsorship.

9.     Practice goal area

It is requested that the quotes acquired for this replacement work are considered at the next Finance committee meeting and a decision is taken on how to proceed.

10.  Further item for consideration

The Football Club feels that the Lorkin Daniell field needs treating with weedkiller.  Doubt was expressed at the need for this.  This is not a job that the Handymen can do with their equipment. DS is to seek the advice of TLC, and if needed, it is felt that the Club should pay for it.

11.  Date of next meeting

The next Environment Committee meeting will be on Thurs 13th June 2024, at 4.30pm in the SC Meeting Room.
