BHYFC - Bergholt HeathBergholt Heath YFC – Results 19th March

A decent weekend for Bergholt with a win, a draw guaranteeing a top 5 finish and a good run in a trophy tournament.  This weekend sees 3 home games so why not come along and support the boys (kick off times below)?

BHYFC U8s

The Under 8s were taking part in a trophy event this weekend. The boys beat Stanway Villa Reds, Stanway Rovers Blues and Colchester Villa en route to the final.  Sadly they lost to Harwich and Parkeston but well done boys for doing so well.

BHYFC U10s vs Cornard Reds

No match report but good to record that BHYFC had a narrow win.

BHYFC U12s vs Reed Hall

This week Bergholt Heath were back on home soil (well, long grass actually…) to face second-placed Reed Hall Sentinels.  The first game between the two team just before Christmas, saw a close game until an unfortunate incident threw Bergholt off track and cost them the game, so expectations were high for another tight encounter.

The game started off with Bergholt kicking into the wind, but they coped very well with it.  In particular James’s goal kicks were getting good distance despite the resistance.  Both sides looked to get on the attack as soon as possible but it was at the expense of their passing.  Bergholt did have a couple of good chances to score with Oscar’s shot aimed for the top corner fizzing just over whilst Freddie had an excellent opportunity to score with his head.  They were left to rue these when Reed Hall’s main man Anotoine danced his way through the Bergholt defence to slide the ball past James with a few minutes to go before half-time.  HT 0-1.

Bergholt Take Upper Hand

The second half started with both teams deciding to improve their passing and with it give the supporters a better game to watch.  With this step up from both teams it was Bergholt who were having the slight upper hand.  They got their reward when a corner from Tommy bobbled across the six yard box to Aaron.  His shot took a large deflection off the Reed Hall defender to wrong-foot the ‘keeper and end up in the corner of the net.

With the goal and the wind on their backs, Bergholt looked to maintain the initiative and get the lead.  With the defence looking solid the midfield started to turn the screw and got a good chance to go ahead when a cross from James was handled by a Reed Hall defender.  Despite the protests from the Reed Hall players and management, the referee correctly pointed to the penalty spot.  Tommy stepped up to take the kick but unfortunately for him and Bergholt his shot went wide of the Reed Hall post.

Bergholt then had another good chance but Oliver’s shot was superbly blocked by the defender; this seemed to kick start Reed Hall into life and the  last few minutes were played in the Bergholt half.  They had a good chance to get the winner themselves but the shot hit the cross bar, bounced down on the Bergholt goal line and then cleared to safety.  FT 1-1.

Unbeaten Run

This draw extends Bergholt’s unbeaten run to six matches.  With this and other results today this ensures that Bergholt, currently fourth in the league, can finish no lower than fifth.

Bergholt Heath player of the match: Joseph Watkins – an excellent match against a quick, skilful winger giving him very little opportunities.
