First Concert for 2017 Sunday 12th March

The band are well into rehearsals for our first concert of the year.  This will again be raising money for St Helena Hospice at Clacton’s West Cliff Theatre. On 26th February the Under 8s were at home against Holland Reds and came away all square.  The under 10s were away at Stanway where Villa came out deserved winners.  The U12s were home against Oyster and had the same scoreline as the 8s.

First Responders looking to raise £8,000

First Responders looking to raise £8,000

The Colchester First Responders group covering West Bergholt are raising £8,000 to Buy life saving Equipment.  Each kit bag for a Community First Responder costs around £1,500 and is a small price to pay to save a life.  The more kit bags they can buy, the more Community First Responders can be out and about on call. No equipment means there are First Responders out there not able to go on duty as they need a full kit bag to respond. Continue reading “First Responders looking to raise £8,000”

Curry up For the Bell Appeal

Following the success of their last event, the coffee morning, which raised nearly £300, the Keep the Bell Ringing Appeal has now reached £7,000.  With just £3,000 to go to reach the target, the Friends of St Mary’s next venture is a Village Curry Lunch.  This will take place on Saturday 11th March in the Orpen Hall between 12:30 – 2pm.

There will be a choice of 3 curries (mild chicken, vegetable & beef madras are planned) and all the trimmings (poppadoms, mango chutney etc.)  Soft drinks, tea and coffee will be served and other, alcoholic options available to buy.  A selection of fruit-based desserts will follow.  You can pre-book shepherds pie if you are not keen on curry. The people of Essex are being urged to have their say in the potential change in the way Essex Police and Essex County Fire & Rescue Service is governed.  To have your say respond to the consultation that ends on Wednesday 10th May.

The Policing and Crime Act 2017 enables police and crime commissioners to become the fire and rescue authority where a strong local case is made. The Government has also created a statutory duty to collaborate.
