Changes to Route 66 from end August

Changes to Route 66 from 27th August

No, nobody’s changing the Will Rogers Highway but First Essex are making changes to local bus services, including Route 66, that will affect West Bergholt.

The 66 and 66A will be combined to form a 20 minute frequency service 66, operating West Bergholt to Rowhedge end to end, improving the service to the outer ends of the route. The 66A journeys and section of route via Speedwell Road and Abbotts Road and Barnhall will be withdrawn.

The Sunday ECC tendered journeys between Colchester and West Bergholt will depart five minutes later, to improve the punctuality of the service. Buses are currently timed to leave Osbourne Street at 45 minutes past each hour from 0945 to 2145. They will instead depart five minutes later at 50 minutes past each hour from 0950 until 2150 service.

Full details can be found here.

Following their final summer visit, to Frinton on Sea’s “Cottage, Garden and Railway Museum” adjacent to the railway crossing gates as you enter Frinton:

Once occupied by the keepers of Frinton’s iconic railway gates, today Frinton’s Crossing Cottage houses an impressive selection of artefacts and archive material that tell the story of the local area in surprising detail. Situated in a well-maintained cottage garden, the grounds also include a wildlife area and information board.  In 2009, the railway signal box was moved into the Garden and became another exhibit housing a snapshot of railway technology in a bygone age.

Relationship Not Rules

I have become more and more aware recently that the Christian faith is far more about having a relationship with God than it is about following a set of rules.

I used to feel that the Christian faith was a set of ideals Continue reading “St Mary’s Summer 2017 Good News Update”

Bats in the Belfry?

Coop voucher schemeBats in the Belfry?

As previously announced the £10,000 target for repair of the roof and the tower at the Old Church has been reached.  Unfortunately work has not yet started as a bat survey indicated that the bats were still roosting in the church. Apparently the bats are late leaving this year because of the cold spring but should leave soon.  The Churches Conservation Trust have given assurances that everything is in hand and should start work by September.

Ongoing Fundraising with thanks to the Co-op

The Friends of the Old Church continue to fund raise for the ongoing maintenance of the church.  In time they also hope to have electricity laid on and install lighting in the building. At present they rely on the generosity of the owners of  Bergholt Hall for a limited electricity supply.

In this vein they would like to express their thanks to the Co-op and their customers who supported the Old Church with their tokens.  This has resulted in a generous donation of £500 to kick start the next wave!

Car Boot Trail – The Results Are In

Car Boot Trail – The Results Are In

Last Sunday, 16th July, saw a great village event with car boots open for business at over 40 homes.  This was great news for the Tom Bowdidge Foundation and Heathlands PTA; they will get to share the £262.13 raised to date.

The organisers, Laura, Eve, Vicky & Susan would like to thank all those who made voluntary donations from their sales. They are also very grateful for the notes and cards they received telling them how much you enjoyed the event regardless of how much was sold.

If you have any last minutes donations they will still be welcomed; drop them off at 76, 80 or 81 Chapel Road.
