Allotment Charity & Bonfire News Update

To find out more about the Allotments visit their webpage on this site.  The Allotment Holders are continuing their donations to the Charity Table where you can buy fresh produce and help local charities.  They are also keen to ensure that you are aware of their bonfires which are held several times a year to dispose of material that can not be recycled.

Allotment Charity Table

Now in its second year the Charity Allotment table is raising funds during 2017 growing season for the following local organisations:-
  • Baby Toddler Group. This meets every Monday at the Methodist church hall between 9.30am and 11.30am.  Parents, Child-minders, Grandparents and family members looking after new-borns and children up to 5years of age are welcome.
  • Wired Youth Group.  For those aged 11-16yrs meeting on the first Friday of each month (except August); meets at the St Mary’s Church Hall between 7.45pm and 9.30pm.
  • Five T’s Fellowship.  For senior citizens, 5Ts meet at the St Mary’s Church Hall for Tea Together every Thursday at Two Thirty and a social chat.
Since opening the table in April  it has been well supported by the community; it is envisaged the above organisations will receive in excess of £500 each.
In addition to the organisations above, a one-off £100 donation will be made towards the funding of the West Bergholt Village Fete vegetable show.

Allotment Bonfire Notice

Between the months of April to October an Allotment bonfire is scheduled on the first Tuesday of each month.  In November the last bonfire of the year is on 5th to coincide with Guy Fawkes’ celebrations.
Dates and times for 2017 growing season are shown below.

4th April : 2nd May : 6th June : 4th July : 1st Aug : 5th Sep : 3rd Oct (18.00 – 20.00)

5th Nov : (Sunday 16.00 – 18.00)

Whilst every effort on the allotment is undertaken to recycle generated waste, diseased  and sprayed waste cannot be recycled; to minimise exposure to rodents this waste is burnt. Every effort is made to ensure the fire is maintained within the guidelines laid down whilst seeking to minimise disruption or inconvenience to the residential community. The fire is also used as to dispose of waste generated by the community ‘Handyperson’ after clearing hedges, shrub waste, long grass cutting etc.
