Songs & Tales take the place of the Origins of Surnames at the Annual Bernard Colbron Lecture on 13th November next week.  This is because, due to circumstances outside his control, Charlie Haylock is unable to deliver the lecture himself.  Charlie has instead arranged for his friend Neil Catchpole to visit us in his place.

Many Talents

Neil Catchpole last visited the History Group about 15 years ago, he is a man of many talents. He is involved with the Stour Valley Trust, the Dedham Vale Area of Natural Beauty and Clare Country Park and grew up in the area.

Households now need a voucher to collect new or replacement recycling containers from a local stockist.  Vouchers have only previously been required for garden waste sacks; this is now being extended to include clear bags, food caddies, and glass/can boxes too.  All these containers remain free of charge.

Wild Flowers of Essex

West Bergholt Gardeners recently enjoyed an interesting talk by Dr. Chris Gibson about “Wild Flowers of Essex”.  Chris drew on his 30+ year career as a nature conservationist, working to preserve Essex wildlife and landscapes.  The Gardeners learnt about the large areas of ancient woodland around the county (which includes Hillhouse Wood) and the flowers and plants which flourish there.
