Food For Thought

West Bergholt Gardeners certainly got food for thought at their recent meeting on 15th October.  Stuart Gough from The Oak Tree Low Carbon Farm described the green ethos of the group.

The Oak Tree group aims to lessen their carbon footprint by working together in an unmechanised way on a voluntary basis.  They rent the land they farm and share the produce in weekly veg boxes.  Farm members report that working at the farm, and being part of the farm community, has a number of health, well-being and fitness benefits as well.

Next Meeting

West Bergholt Gardeners’ next meeting will be on the 19th November when Chris Gibson will talk about “Wild Flowers” of Essex.  Chris retired from a long career with Natural England (the Government’s advisor on nature conservation). He started his career notifying SSSIs in Essex and ended 31 years later dealing with national high-risk casework, helping put sustainability into offshore wind developments.

Non-members are welcome (£3 entry on the night) at 7.30 pm in the Orpen Hall.  Optionally you could always join with club membership at £12 for a year (Sep – Aug).
