Do You Need Recycling Containers/Bags?

Vouchers needed for recycling containersDo You Need Recycling Containers/Bags?

Households now need a voucher to collect new or replacement recycling containers from a local stockist.  Vouchers have only previously been required for garden waste sacks; this is now being extended to include clear bags, food caddies, and glass/can boxes too.  All these containers remain free of charge.

Why Vouchers?

The voucher rollout is being introduced to help determine the levels of demand for these items and to help local stockists monitor and maintain the number of containers they have available for the local community.  Residents needing a voucher will need to visit www.colchester.gov.uk/recycling and complete an online form, after which they will receive an email voucher containing their collection code and confirmation of the containers.  Residents can either print the voucher off or show it on a mobile device to a local stockist.

Special arrangements are in place for residents registered with the Assisted Collection Scheme.  They can order recycling containers, bags and white garden waste sacks to be delivered to their home.

Councillor Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Portfolio Holder for Waste, Transport and Environment, said:

Extending the existing voucher system in this way will help to ensure that stock levels for these items meets public demand and that each household receives the containers they’re entitled to.
