Over 150 people from the village gathered on the evening of 11th November to play their part in a nationwide “Battle’s Over” commemoration. This nationwide event was marking the ending of the 1st World War 100 years ago.
The commemoration saw a common theme being played out in urban and rural areas, towns, villages and cities. Collectively a 1000 buglers were sounding the Last Post, over 1000 beacons of light being ignited; a similar number of Cathedral and Church bells also rung out. Fireworks Plea from HeathlandsThis Saturday, 4th November, sees the 25th Annual Fireworks Display on the Poors Field. 25 Years of Heathlands FireworksOnce again Heathlands Primary will be hosting their ever popular Firework Display. This time, it’s a special anniversary as well since it is 25 years since their first display!

Thoughtless Parking at Poor’s LandAffecting children at Heathlands, Bergholt Heath YFC and the general public at large, thoughtless parking at the Poor’s Land Gate is a problem. The Parish Council contracts with Countrywide to maintain this land; last week they tried to gain access on 3 occasions but were unable to do so.
Without maintenance the land may cease to be fit for purpose depriving our youth and fellow villagers of a much-loved facility.
With ample parking available at Orpen Hall & Church car parks, all just a short walk, there really is no excuse.
This is just the latest in a series of parking concerns over the past year or so. Remember you can help address this by reporting parking, even speeding, issues using Trygve. This app (iOS or Android), allows you to take a picture, record the location and record details of incidents which are then reviewed. There is an active group you can join and see what others are reporting – West Bergholt Road Violations.
Yoga 4 Life – One Step at a TimeStarting 19th September, Meg Lyon, a long time village resident, is offering a course of Yoga for 7-12 year-olds. Car Boot Trail – The Results Are InLast Sunday, 16th July, saw a great village event with car boots open for business at over 40 homes. This was great news for the Tom Bowdidge Foundation and Heathlands PTA; they will get to share the £262.13 raised to date.
The organisers, Laura, Eve, Vicky & Susan would like to thank all those who made voluntary donations from their sales. They are also very grateful for the notes and cards they received telling them how much you enjoyed the event regardless of how much was sold.
If you have any last minutes donations they will still be welcomed; drop them off at 76, 80 or 81 Chapel Road.
Home Boot Sale – Plan Your TrailIn support of Tom Bowdidge Foundation and Heathlands PTA, the Home Boot Sale takes place THIS SUNDAY (16th July) between 10am – 3pm. With over 40 homes already signed up you can use the map to plan your trail around the village. The Map and streets taking part are shown below.
West Bergholt residents will be selling their ‘boot sale’ items outside their homes on drives, come and grab a bargain and enjoy the trail around our village. You could make a day of it, the village has 3 lovely pubs and village shops for refreshment. Maps are available to download (below) or they will be available from 76, 80, 81 Chapel Road on the day, also on posters around the village.
All welcome, walk, cycle or drive our trail!
