The “Taylor Maids” referred to are, of course, Ann & Jane Taylor, authors of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”.   They lived in West Stockwell Street in the 1800’s and Peter Jones of the Local History Group will be talking about them at their next meeting.

Fee Goes Toward a Statue for the Taylors

It is normal for speakers to receive a fee; in this instance, however, the fee will be donated towards a statue of the sisters.  The project to create this statue is being led by Sir Bob Russell mostly through his popular history walks around Colchester.  Sir Bob has already commissioned a small scale model of what will eventually become a life-size replica:
