Summer Security

Summer security - Burglar
Secure your home and remain vigilant

Summer Security

Every summer security is a number one risk as homes are left unoccupied for holidays.  In conjunction with Essex Police, Colchester Neighbourhood Watch has offered the following advice:

Reports of burglaries are high this month and the Police urge all our members, together with friends and family, to not take chances but to definitely take precautions:

  • When going out make sure that all windows and doors are shut tight and locked.
  • Never leave keys hanging in the locks and secure all keys where they cannot be found.
  • If you have ladders in the garden, chain and lock these to something strong.
  • Move and secure anything that can be climbed upon to reach windows above ground or to access a flat roof.
  • Make sure that tools are not accessible: that goes for garden tools as well. A Garden Spade is just the job for levering open an outside door.
  • Make sure your property looks occupied. Interior lights on timer switches are a good start and you will find lots more advice on our web site by following this link – http://www.essexinfo.net/colchesternhw/homes/.
