Environment & Highways Meeting Held on  13th May 2021

The Environment & Highways Committee of West Bergholt Parish Council met on 13th May 2021 with topics including:

  • Election of officers,
  • Handymen activities,
  • Maintaining ponds including a call for volunteers,
  • Trees on the Heath,
  • Litter at Ash’s, &
  • Strategic Environmental Planning.

Committee Meeting held on Thursday 13th May 2021 in the Youth Shelter

Committee members:

John Gili Ross, Phil Spencer, Harry Stone, David Short, Norma Smith, Jenny Church.

1Election of Officers.
 Chairperson of Committee:
John Gili Ross nominated, seconded and elected as Chairperson.
Vice Chairperson of Committee:
Phil Spencer was proposed, seconded and elected as Vice chairperson.
Harry Stone, David Short, Norma Smith, Jenny Church and Murray Harlow will continue as members of this committee.
2Handymen report
 Essex devolved activities continue.
General activities – litter picking, strimming, tidying kerbs, cleaning/painting of signs.
3Village ponds
 Lexden Road pond – Remove living chair and in future replace with a bench.
Hall Road pond – needs tidying. Important to preserve water plantain.
Plan in future to organise a group of volunteers to care for ponds.
4Bench on Poor’s Land
 This bench has now been repaired.
5Items from Parish Clerk
 a) School reports that trees on edge of Heath might need pruning as children have been swinging on the branches.
b) The trees and branches have been checked and are safe.Litter at Ash’s shop – Ask Laura to send a letter to the shop keeper.
6Strategic Environmental Plan
 Phil is contacting Essex Wildlife Trust and Essex Field Trust ask advice about land management.
7New Storage Unit
 No new plans yet.
8Resident complained about a drain leak into Firmins Close alleyway
 Ask Laura to send a letter.
