BHYFC Results 26th March

BHYFC - Bergholt HeathBergholt Heath YFC – Results 26th March

The three matches on 26th March produced 2 draws and a win.  U8 & U10 teams still have games but the season is over for the U12s finishing in 4th place in the league.

Next Season

As we reach the twilight of the 16/17 matches we are starting to prepare for next season.  Thanks to the development squad we have around a dozen children wishing to play in the under 7s section.  We hope to enter two teams but could do with a few more.  If your child is interested, and will be in School year 2 this September coming, please contact Pete on [antibot mailto=”[email protected]”].

BHYFC U8s vs Great Bentley

The 8s played Great Bentley in a game that swung one way and another.  Bergholt took a comfortable lead but slowly Bentley drew level and then took the lead.  With time running down Alex hit a thunderbolt past the keeper to draw back level.  The game finished all even.

BHYFC U10s vs Brightlingsea

Our 10s were at home against Brightlingsea where they too came away with a draw.

BHYFC U12s vs St Edmund Reds

The 12s finished this seasons league campaign at home to St Edmunds Reds.

With the sun shining on the Poors field, St Edmunds kicked off and immediately looked to get the ball to their quick centre forward, but the Bergholt defence are now well-versed in how to deal with such a threat and they were able to restrict the opposition to only a couple of corners in the half. With the winds behind their backs, Bergholt had the better half and much of the game was played in the St Edmunds half.  After a few close efforts, including Oliver hitting the post, James having a shot blocked at close range by the ‘keeper, the former got his reward with a smart turn in the box after a knock-down from Thomas to smash the ball into the St Edmunds net.

Bergholt then doubled their lead just before the break when a smart through ball from Theo saw James four yards out and with a simple task of slotting past the despairing dive of the St Eds ‘keeper.  HT 2-0.

Dominant

The second half was more even as regard possession but not clear cut opportunities as Bergholt dominated the goal-scoring chances.  The Bergholt passing, which was excellent once again, was creating opportunities, particularly for James and Freddie, who were giving their respective full-backs a really tough time, whilst Oscar’s glancing header from Tommy’s corner went just wide.  They were left rueing these misses when the St Edmunds striker finally got the better of the Bergholt defence to sprint clear and coolly slot the ball through the legs of the advancing James in goal.

Once Bergholt had shaken their heads clear of this setback, they settled back into passing the ball around and from one attack put Oscar clear though on goal.  He sped clear but unfortunately put his shot wide.  He then made quick amends for this when moments later he put through James with a lovely pass and his well taken finish put the game beyond the visitors.  FT 3-1.

League 4th Overall

This performance epitomised Bergholt’s recent form with solidity at the back and some nice passing.   The win extends Bergholt’s unbeaten run to seven games and, with other results last weekend, ensures that Bergholt finish the season in 4th place in the league.  Well done to all 13 of the squad – deserved reward for some really great football.

Bergholt Heath player of the match: Tommy Haworth – a captain’s performance today.  Some excellent corners as well.
