The Jazz Century – Cakewalk to Culture

Sax JazzThe Jazz Century – Cakewalk to Culture

After its summer break, the West Bergholt Branch of WEA is welcoming the return of popular tutor Graham Platts with a Jazz theme.  Members enjoyed Graham’s previous courses:

For this course, Graham’s subject is “The Jazz Century – Cakewalk to Culture” the origins of jazz and the music developed during the 20th century.

  • Who are the men and women behind the development of jazz?
  • What did they contribute?
  • What would jazz become by the end of the end of the twentieth century?

Graham invites us to travel through jazz history decade by decade. We’ll cover the dance halls and sporting houses of New Orleans to New York’s Carnegie Hall; we’ll also celebrate the pioneers who have kept us dancing.

The course begins on Tuesday 18th September 2018 in the Methodist Hall, Chapel Lane, West Bergholt CO6 3EF.  There is a new starting time of 7:45 pm and it runs over 10 weeks, not nine as in recent courses.

  • Course reference C2225714
  • The cost is £54.75 and you can book at enrolonline.wea.org.uk, phone 0300 303 3464 or at the venue.
  • Those on benefits may be entitled to a free course.
