The Keep Britain Tidy campaign is organising Great British Spring Clean 2019 which runs between 22nd March – 23rd April.  They’re aiming to inspire around half a million people to join forces – in partnership with community organisations, businesses and councils – to collect and safely dispose of litter from our streets, parks and beaches, recycling as much as possible.

Great British Spring CleanGreat British Spring Clean

The Great British Spring Clean is a campaign with a simple aim: to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and beaches.

The campaign wants to inspire 400,000 people to get outdoors, get active and help clear up the rubbish that lies around us.  Join this growing army of Litter Heroes who have had enough of other people’s litter and are willing to do something about it. Spring Clean with the Litter WarriorsSpring Clean

Help Spring Clean the village with the Litter Warriors at their next outing this weekend.

Starting from the West Bergholt Cricket Club, Manor Road, at 11am on Saturday 1st April this is no April Fool jest (although bad jokes might be excused).   Why not spend an hour helping to tidy our village up and take pride in our beautiful village.

Families are welcome and all equipment will be provided.  Following the litter pick there will also be free Continue reading “Spring Clean”

Clean-for-the-QueenLitter Warriors “Clean for the Queen”

Litter WarriorsThe West Bergholt Litter Warriors next outing to clean up our streets takes place this Saturday, 5th March, meeting at 10am at the Orpen Hall.  This is a ‘special’ event as part of the “Clean for the Queen” Spring Clean.  Please join us litter-picking around the village, we do it once a month – it’s only an hour and can make such a difference.  All equipment will be provided.  There is an award scheme available for junior volunteers.

Clean for The Queen is a campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016.

When she came to the throne litter was not the problem that it is today. Food packaging, plastic bottles, takeaway meals and cigarette butts have all contributed to a growing menace that affects our wildlife, streets, countryside and sense of pride. What better way could we show our gratitude to Her Majesty than to clean up our country?

We are calling on individuals, volunteer groups, local councils, businesses and schools to do their bit. You can start now and also take part in our Clean for The Queen weekend on March  4th, 5th and 6th 2016.  Please register your interest here and we will help you to Clean for The Queen.

A BIG HAND to Hand in Hand Day Volunteers

A BIG HAND to Hand in Hand Day Volunteers

Hand in hand volunteers ready to workThe Parish Council would like to thank all of the volunteers, who kindly gave up their time to assist with the West Bergholt Hand in Hand Day.

The volunteers who came to help on the day joined the Colchester Borough Community Zone Team. The street sweepers were out most of the day, clearing all of the major and minor roads. Litter picking was conducted around the Orpen Hall, along Hall Road, Colchester Road and by the allotments. Paths were strimmed and cleared of debris, making them easier to use.

This has all helped contribute to maintaining West Bergholt as a clean and pleasant place to live.

Many thanks

The Big Village Tidyup

Do you sometimes think that there is too much litter around in our village? If so then why not join “The Big Tidy Up” being organised by our Parish Plan Steering Group.

The date for the litter pick is Saturday 19th September, meeting at the Orpen Hall at 9.30am. All clubs and village organisations, or groups of individuals, are invited to attend to help keep our village “Clean and Green”. It is suggested that volunteers should be in teams of 6/7 with at least one adult in charge. We will then divide the Village up into specific areas so that different teams can “pick” and we will then also get some idea of the areas that need most attention in the future.

Offers of help already received from West Bergholt Football Club and Bergholt Youth Group.

Equipment for picking will be available courtesy of Colchester Borough Council. Tabards, badges and stickers will be available courtesy of “The Big Tidy up” organised by “Keep Britain Tidy”.

For further info and offers of support please contact Harry Stone 241026 or Jenny Church 240792.

As many people as possible are invited to help and there will be refreshments available after the picking is finished. The more volunteers the quicker the Litter Pick will be completed!!!
