Methodist Hall Open for Business

Methodist Church for saleMethodist Hall Open for Business

As the Methodist Church is put up for sale, the Methodist community in West Bergholt remind us that the Hall is still open for business.

Ongoing Hall Activity

The future of the site, including the hall, is dependent on who is interested in the site and what plans the ultimate buyer has for the site.  However, nothing is going to happen overnight and the Church anticipates that it will be some time before any sale is finalised.

In the meantime, the Church continues to operate all regular activities as usual and the users who hire the hall continue to run all their activities. For example, the Baby and Toddler group are continuing to meet on Monday mornings throughout the school term. In addition to the activities of those who hire the hall, the local Methodist fellowship has the following events planned in the hall and all are welcome to join us:-

Future Worship

West Bergholt Methodists are now worshipping at Mile End on a Sunday morning. They are joining with Methodists from Boxted and Mile End to explore the possibility of a new worship and community facility on the new Chesterwell development in Mile End.

Burial Grounds

The “old” burial grounds surrounding the Chapel and Garden of Remembrance at the front are closed so there will be no further interments there. The “new” burial ground beyond the hall will remain open to honour the reservations made for there.

The Sale

The Parish Council will be discussing this at their meeting on Wednesday, February 27th at 7.30pm.  The site is now being marketed by Boydens with a guide price of £420,000. The site can only be marketed for a restricted use category, broadly community use.

Details are also available on the “Right Move” website under commercial properties. The site is actually owned centrally by the Methodist Church of Great Britain and the sale is being handled on their behalf by officers of the Colchester Methodist Circuit, of which West Bergholt is a part.
