About Abbey Road

Abbey Road comprises five experienced  local musicians. Lou Moody (guitar/vocals), Chris Halls (Guitar/vocals), Sean Gildea (bass/vocals), Rik Parry (percussion/vocals) and Pat Coy (Guitar/vocals). They all play in various bands in various genres but have a common love of the music of The Beatles.

After some fun jam sessions they decided to take it more seriously and formed a more permanent band. They cover the music from the very earliest Beatles hits to songs recorded much later in their career.

Their mantra at all gigs is ” A GOOD TIME WILL BE HAD BY ALL”

The Mediaeval Paintings

One of the paintings uncovered

During the interior redecoration of the church, contractors discovered the presence of historic wall paintings in three main areas. An offical conservator examined the wall paintings and determined that they are important evidence of the visual history of the church and should be conserved and exposed.

In 2020, the expert estimated the cost of this to be in the region of £9-£10,000.

The Friends will be seeking grants and carrying out fundraising events to pay for this work as their continued exposure is now causing deterioration.  The church remains a well loved and well visited historical building and is 1000 years old.  Once preserved, the paintings can be enjoyed by many generations of visitors and West Bergholt residents for years to come.
