The Polar Express

The Polar Express

The West Bergholt Film Club is showing the movie The Polar Express on Saturday 15th December.  Taking place in the Orpen Hall, doors open at 9:30 am for showtime at 10 pm.

40th Anniversary Christmas Concert

40th Anniversary Christmas Concert

This Christmas Concert, in their 40th Anniversary year, will see both of the West Bergholt Concert Bands in action.  The Charity concert is being held at St Botolph’s Church, Colchester on Saturday 15th December.  It will start at 19:30 pm and end at approximately 21:40 pm.

Tickets on the door £6 Adults, £5 Concessions.

The Band will be offering two performances, promising a joyful concert of Christmas favourites old and new.

Mulled Wine, Mince Pies and Candlelit Carols are on offer as the Friends of St Mary’s resume their normal programme.

Extensive external renovations affecting the tower and the 2 dormer windows and roof repairs have now been fully completed.  The next phase of internal redecorations is now likely to start in Spring 2019.  This means that the church is open for use allowing the Friends to organise two seasonal events:

Buy some Xmas Cards with your Mulled Wine

Mulled Wine & Mince Pies

Taking place between 11:30 am – 1:30 pm on Sunday 9th December, soft drinks, coffee and other savoury eats will also be on offer.  The event also affords an opportunity to take out or renew membership (just £5 a family), and to buy Christmas Cards of the church.  There is no charge for this event but you are welcome to offer a donation.

Candlelit Service

The ever-popular Candlelit Carol Service resumes on Sunday 16th December at 2:30 pm.  You are reminded that there is no heating, so dress warm, and that a cushion makes the service more comfortable.  All are welcome.

Update on Reopening Concert

This concert which featured the Comrie Singers, Jubilant Brass and The 3 Saxes was very well attended and raised £100’s, the Friends are planning to run another concert next year.

Four Footpaths Named in Honour of the Fallen

The Local History Group is proud to announce that, after 6 months of discussion and planning, four footpaths have been named with a ‘Memorial’ sign at each end of the paths.  Each of the signs includes the word MEMORIAL.  They mark the commemoration of the centenary of the end of the Great War; in particular the fact that over 170 villagers joined the British Forces of which at least 27 made the ultimate sacrifice.
