Knit One Down One

Local Knitting Club, Knit One Down One, who regularly meet in the White Hart, were the featured knitting club in the recent edition of Simply Knitting.   One of the founders, Julie Bennett, was already running an after-school sewing club (Sewcool) when she had the idea of an adults knitting club, another member, Kate Cornes, joked:

It was an excuse for a quiet night in the pub originally, we started with about six members and quickly grew to 20 plus!

The White Hart gets a favourable mention as well:

The owners, Lyndsey and Mark Killick, make us so welcome with nibbles all round, we even yarnbombed their garden in the summer to advertise the pub.

The club mainly knits items for charity and has recently been busy making teddy bears. The bears are intended to comfort children involved in distressing incidents, part of a campaign run by the local police force.  Other charitable events included their Easter Bunny hunt, which raised nearly £800 for the Tom Bowdidge Foundation.

The article also suggested West Bergholt as a great village to visit singling out Hillhouse Wood and St Mary’s Old Church as local highlights.
