Do you use Evening or Sunday Bus Services?

If so then you should check out ECC’s consultation on supported evening & Sunday bus services.  Supported buys services are those that do not run on a commercial basis and require financial support by ECC.  These services currently cost ECC £9m a year and as they say:

Local bus services reviewECC has a strong record for supporting local bus services, especially when compared to the situation with many other local transport authorities across the country, where there have been significant reductions in the level of support offered. ECC remains committed to supporting an effective and efficient bus service network offering value for money to the taxpayer in the services it provides.

However the strong financial pressure on all local government funding means that ECC has to look very carefully at how it provides all its services to make sure that the limited funding available is focused where it will do most good.

Local bus services potentially affected by this consultation are:

  • 66
  • 66A
  • 67B

If you use buses that don’t visit West Bergholt please visit the consultation site for the full list.  The proposals are essentially suggesting continuing to support:

  • Monday – Friday evening buses departing before 10 pm,
  • Saturday evening buses departing before 11 pm,
  • Sunday services departing 8 am – 7 pm at a two-hourly interval.

… as well as a number of exceptions and caveats.

To find out more please visit the ECC consultation pages (which close at 5 pm on March 22nd) or for the long read the following:
