Bergholt Heath YFC – Fixtures & results

Our Under 8’s came up against a very strong Colchester Althletic team, losing 3-0 away this week.

The Under 13’s continued their 100% start to the season and, despite not being at their best, in the end ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at home to Great Bentley to put them top of the “A” league. A scrappy first half saw the ball in the air too often and some “ball watching” but Bergholt scored the only goal of the half with one of their few moments of football. Bergholt got to grips with the game in the second half scoring 3 more goals, having one effort disallowed and various other “close shaves”.  Owen Bernhardt x 2, Mickey Whittle and Antonio Sabini (pen), scoring the Bergholt goals.  Man of the Match: Gianni Sabini.
The Under 14’s again had a poor day, losing 8-0 at home to Heybridge Swifts.
The Under 16’s had a game of two halves, also at home, to Alresford Colne Rangers reds. A one sided first half ended with Bergholt 12-0 down at the interval.  however the second half was a much closer game with Alresford edging it 5-3 to make the final score 17-3 to the visitors.  Bergholt goal scorers: Jordan Aldridge x 2 and Matthew Pitts.
Finally the Under 18’s had an excellent 5-1 win away to Lawford.  Alex Bartlett x 2, Tom Hodder, Joshua Claydon and Ryan Fox scoring the Bergholt goals.

Bergholt Heath YFC Results & Fixtures

Unfortunately the under 9s couldn’t repeat their superb result from last week, going down 2-1 at home to Long Melford in the West League, despite dominating the match territorially. Matthew Sanderson scored the Bergholt Heath goal.

Our under 13s were involved in Essex Cup action for the first time ever, at home (at the Orpen Hall), to Little Thurrock Dynamos. The cup gave the manager the opportunity to try out a few different things. However the positional and personnel changes didn’t seem to upset the team and they ran out 7-1 winners – with the first 3 goals coming in the very first 4 minutes of the game! A further goal after 15 minutes allowed cruise mode to set in and the boys took their foot off the gas and the visitors pulled a goal back to make it 4-1 at the interval. Further changes during the second half – which even saw a centre back finish the game on the left wing! – disrupted the flow a little, but a further 3 goals were scored without reply. Final score 7-1. Through to the second round, which will also be at home, to Brentwood.  Bergholt Heath goal scorers (minute in brackets): Owen Bernhardt x 2 (1 & 56), Antonio Sabini (2), James Holden x 2 (4 & 15), Jake Adams (38), Mickey Whittle (42).   Bergholt Heath ‘Man of the Match’: Owen Bernhardt

The under 14s were also at home in the Essex Cup, to Trinity Blues from Billericay. Bergholt were 3-1 down at half time put managd to pull themselves back to 3-3. However a goalkeeping error almost on full time allowed the visitors to win the match 4-3.

With 2 players on official refereeing duty for the Essex Cup this weekend, our under 16s had to postpone their scheduled match away to Brightlingsea Regent as this meant they dropped below the required minimum to field a team.

Back to the league and out under 18’s were away to Clacton United Reds, unfortunately losing 8-0. Not much more to say about that one!

Next weeks fixtures, Sunday 2nd October:

  • Colchester Athletic v Under 9

  • Under 14 v Heybridge Swifts KO 12 noon

Bergholt Heath YFC – results & fixtures

This report is for the matches played on 18th September and gives fixtures for matches to be played on 25th September – why not come along and support the boys?

Our under 9s got their first ever 3 points in a competitive match – in their first away game – with a 3-0 win at Bures.  Matthew Sanderson scoring two and Thomas Whitlow the other.

The under 13s continued their good start to the league season with a 2-1 away win at Silver End. However the team never reached the heights of last week and had to battle hard for the win against a well organised Silver End team who came into the A league as B league champions. Antonio Sabini put Bergholt ahead from the penalty spot on 15 minutes after the ref penalised a home defender for pushing. Silver End continued to press and Bergholt struggled to get their passing going, continuously giving possession away. Silver End equalised in the second half courtesy of an own goal in a crowded area. The winner came from one of the few quality moves Bergholt managed during the game – Mickey Whittle blasting the ball into the net from 12 yards out after a decisive passing move cut the home defence apart. Bergholt managed to hold on to maintain their 100% start to the season. Man of the Match was our goal keeper Connor Welfare.

The under 14s are still struggling to get their season going with a number of new players taking time to bed in, this week going down 4-0 at home to Stanway Villa.

The under 16s, despite fielding a full team, went backwards from last weeks promising start, losing 14-1 at home to St Edmunds. 0-0 at 35 minutes, St Edmunds finished the first half with 3 goals in 5 minutes to go into the break 3-0 up. This shattered the fragile Bergholt confidence and the second half became a landslide, the only positive being another goal for James Dixey from the penalty spot.

Our under 18s managed yet another draw, this week away to Halstead Town Blues. Reece Brooks scoring the Bergholt goal.

Next weeks fixtures, Sunday 25th September:

  • Under 9s v Long Melford KO 10.30am (Poors Field)
  • Under 13s v Little Thurrock Dynamos – Essex Cup – KO 1.30pm – Orpen Playing Field
  • Under 14s v Trinity (Blue) – Essex Cup – KO 2pm (Poors Field)

New season kicks off for BHYFC

Our under 9s had their first ever match in ‘competitive’ football, in the West league – unfortunately losing 7-0 away to Clare Town. After dominating most of the 1st half, Bergholt were hit on the break twice to go in at half time 2-0 down. As they pushed forward in the second half, Clare were quick to counter attack, running out comfortable winners.

The under 13s started their season at home to Cornard Dynamos Blues in the A League. With Cornard finishing second and Bergholt Heath third last season, this was going to be a tough match to begin the season. Inside the opening twenty minutes Bergholt dominated possession and had a couple of opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net, but they couldn’t take their chances. As they pushed on Bergholt Heath eventually got the opener with the ball dropping to Ciaran Donnellon on the edge of the box who struck it cleanly on the volley and it bounced over the keeper and in. Cornard had a couple of opportunities to get back on terms after the restart but none that really tested Connor Welfare in Bergholt’s goal. At half time Bergholt headed in 1-0 up.

It was an evenly matched second half but with about 15 mins to go Bergholt Heath got their second with Gianni Sabini hitting the ball back across the keeper into the far corner after some nice link up play between Jake Adams and Mickey Whittle down the left. Cornard pulled a goal back when the ball was hit long and the Bergholt defender caught it on the top of his head, the striker hassled the covering defender as the keeper hesitated coming to pick the ball up, going round the defender and blasting it in at the near post, 2-1. But in the final 10 mins, Bergholt, again dominating possession, got another goal – a strike coming in from the edge of the box the keeper parried it and Mickey Whittle was first to react and put the ball in the back of the net. As the end of the game approached both teams were tiring but Jake Adams mesmerised the Cornard defence then he played it out to the edge of the area, got it back and struck the ball on the half volley in to the far top corner, brilliant goal 4-1. Then the final whistle went, great game, and a good start to the league for Bergholt Heath! Bergholt Heath man of the match: Mickey Whittle. Report by Jamie Bowden.

The under 14s, also in the A league, played their first game away to Stanway Rovers. Despite Bergholt having the lions share of possession, a couple of bad defensive lapses saw them lose 2-1.

Our under 16s started the season with a full team – something they have been unable to do in the last couple of seasons. Playing at home to AFC Sudbury they got 3 names on the score sheet but unfortunately ended up losing 12-3. The 3 Bergholt Heath goals were scored by Joshua Wren, Scott King and James Dixey.

Finally, our under 18s team played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at home to Harwich & Parkstone. Bergholt went ahead early on scored by Alex Bartlett but then had Luke Duffy sent off before half time. Despite playing with 10 men, Bergholt increased their lead in the second half, Alex Enright sending a half volley into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, only to concede a penalty almost immediately – the referee spotting a push in the box at a corner. Shortly after, Harwich equalised, the striker reacting fastest after a shot hit the bar. Bergholt continued to battle for every ball and got a break when a defender sent a bullet-like header into his own net from a Bergholt free kick – the referee correctly over-ruling the linesman’s flag for offside, the player not ‘interfering with play’ according to the current rules. Unfortunately Bergholt Heath could not hold on to the win, Harwich equalising after a scramble in the 6 yard box following a corner.

  • Silver End v Under 13

Our under 8’s are going through a goal drought and didn’t manage to score any again this weekend, away to Gt Bradfords.

The under 12’s lost away to Wivenhoe in a friendly, 3-2. I think some of the boys treated it as a knock about! The under 12’s have just been drawn at home to Lexden Saints in the quarter finals of the League Cup – date to be confirmed.

The under 12s had a friendly away to Bures whilst they wait for the quater finals of the League Cup. They won 4-2 with goals from Jake Adams x 2 and Gianni Sabini x 2.  Bergholt Heath man of the match: Jake Adams.

Our under 13s were at home to Ransomes from Ipswich in the Open Cup.  Ransomes are unbeaten this season and are in the final of the Essex County Cup, so it was no real surprise that they ran out 7-0 winners.

The under 15s did not have a game this weekend but will be playing again soon as they are entered into the end of season trophy competition.

Our under 16s played Gt Bradfords at home in the league, and convincingly won 5-1.  The Bergholt Heath goal scorers were Alex Bartlett with a hat-trick, and Ben Holness with two.

Unfortunately our under 8’s didn’t manage to score a goal away to Stanway Villa Yellows.

The under 13’s played the postponed Open Cup match away to Bodecia Dynamos, winning 9-1, with our goalkeeper getting a run out for the last 10 minutes and scoring 2 goals! The full list of goal scorers: Liam Donnelly, Keir Brown, Callum Sells x 3, Edward Quilty, Fawas Olaboyee, James Ardley x 2.

Bergholt Heath YFC – Results 13th February & Fixtures

Our under 8s are back into the swing of things after their mid-winter break. Although they played much better this weekend at home to Clare Town lions than they did in the away fixture, Bergholt didn’t manage to score a goal.

The under 12s finished off their A league campaign with a 0-0 draw (first time they have ever had a 0-0 result!), at home to Heybridge Swifts. It was a hard fought match and possibly the most entertaining of the season, but although Bergholt had more chances than Heybridge, they just couldn’t get the ball into the net. The under 12s needed to win the match to guarantee a third place finish in the league, so now they need to rely on Coggeshall preventing Heybridge – who are sitting behind in 4th place – from winning by more than 2 goals in their final match. Bergholt Heath ‘man of the match’: Jamie Bowden.

Our under 13s were also at home, to the likely A league winners, Holland Blues. Holland were out for revenge after losing at home to Bergholt last month, and duly ran out 7-1 winners. The game was close for the first half which ended 2-1 to Holland. However Holland ran way with the second half, scoring 3 times in the last 10 minutes. Edward Quilty scored the Bergholt Heath goal.

The under 15s have finished their league season and did not have a game scheduled this weekend.

Our under 16s were away to Feering falcons and scored all 7 goals in a 5-2 win! Callam Drage, Tom Hodder, Alex Bartlett x 2 and Jack Gatland scored the 5 that counted for Bergholt.

Despite being 4-2 up at the end of the first half, our under 18s eventually lost 6-4 away to Reed Hall, who exposed some defensive frailties (from the night before?) in the second half. Dean Bennell x 2, Ben Rout and Jacob Hill scored the Bergholt Heath goals.

Next weeks fixtures 20th February:
Stanway Villa Yellows v Under 8
Under 12 No game
Boadicea Dynamos v Under 13 Open Cup R2

Bergholt Heath YFC – Results 23rd January 2011 & upcoming fixtures

Our under 8s are still on their winter break, but did start training again on Saturday. Their first match back should be 6th February.

The under 12s were at home to Wivenhoe Youth Blues in the A league and won 2-0 in a close competitive match. Bergholt survived a scare when Wivenhoe hit the bar after only a few minutes, and generally Wivenhoe had the better of things in a tight first half. However Bergholt went into the break 1-0 up after Antonio Sabini was credited with a goal after a scramble in the box – the Wivenhoe linesman signalling that the ball did cross the line before being cleared. The second half saw a more composed Bergholt Heath performance and it was no surprise when the second goal was scored – Leo Tiffney wiggled his way past the right back and crossed for Ronan Gallagher to slot home from the edge of the six yard box. Bergholt Heath ‘man of the match’: Harry Dixon.

Our under 13s played the league leaders, Holland, away. Proving that confidence is the key to success, following a couple of wins in the cup competitions against opposition from lower divisions, the team put in their best performance of the season to date. Bergholt found themselves 4-0 up before Holland pulled 2 goals back, but the players did not fold and managed to score 2 more goals on the break, running out 5-2 winners!

The under 15s did not have a game scheduled this weekend.

Our under 16s were in Open Cup action, losing away to Broomfield Youth 2-1. The team were 2-0 down but kept battling away finally scoring with 5 minutes to go. Had they scored a little earlier then they could well have gone on to win, but it was too late and Broomfield held on for the win.

The under 18s were in league action at home to Reed Hall, the match finishing 2-2. Bergholt took the lead through Jacob Hill but 10 minutes lack of concentration saw them concede 2 quick goals. However they got back on track and scored a deserved equaliser through Leo Reid.

Next Weeks fixtures, Sunday 30th January:

Under 8 No game
Under 12 v Frinton & Walton, KO 10am
Under 13 v Brooklands, KO 12 noon
Under 15 v Brightlingsea Regents, KO 2pm

Bergholt Heath YFC Results 16th January & upcoming fixtures

Our Under 8s didn’t play as they are still on their mid-winter break.

The under 12s, struggling with injuries and illness, lost 3-2 after extra time away to Cornard Dynamos Reds in the Colchester Open Cup.  Bergholt took the lead playing with the wind in the first half, James Hirst scoring with a wind-assisted lob after the ball fell to him outside the area after a corner had been cleared.  One goal was not enough playing with the wind but although Bergholt managed to hit the post twice, the team lost impetus and began ‘ball watching”.  The second half saw Cornard attack with gusto (like the wind!) and, despite some resolute defending at the back, with 15 minutes to go Bergholt found themselves 2-1 behind.  A late equaliser by James Holden, put through by Leo Tiffney, meant extra time.  However by this time the players who were not 100% fit were really struggling and it was no surprise when Cornard scored a third and winning goal.  Bergholt Heath ‘man of the match’: Jamie Bowden.

Out under 13s had another good win – and clean sheet – also in the Open Cup, winning away to Brightlingsea Regents 3-0. The result could have been even more emphatic as Brightlingsea hardly managed an effort on goal in the whole match. The Bergholt Heath goal scorers were Keir Brown, Callum Sells and Cameron Siedlecky.

The under 15s – including 3 substitutes – had their best match of the season narrowly losing 3-2 at home to St Edmunds in the league.  Things are finally looking up and it’s unfortunate that they could not get their first points of the season in such a close match.  The Bergholt Heath goal scorers were Jack Dowrick and James Dixey.

Our under 16s also lost 3-2 at home in the league, to Cornard Dynamos.  Callum Drage and Tom Hodder scoring the Bergholt Heath goals.

The under 18s did not have a game this weekend as the team they were due to play has now withdrawn from the league.

Next weeks fixtures 23rd January:

Under 8 – No game
Under 12 v Wivenhoe Blues, KO 10am
Holland Blues v Under 13
Under 15 – No game
Broomfield v Under 16 Open Cup R1
