The Parish Council has a vacancy for a Village Hall Caretaker to be based at the Orpen Memorial Hall. This is a permanent, part-time, position with a minimum of 8 hours per week. Salary is from £15.08 per hour (FTE £29,093) and benefits from a pension scheme and, of course, holiday entitlement.

Caretaker Job Summary

POST:Village Hall Caretaker

POSITION REPORTS TO:Hall Administrator
HOURS OF WORK:Standard 8 hours a week, with additional hours paid as required
RATE OF PAY:SCP 15, £15.08 per hour (FTE £29,093)
BENEFITS:Local Government Pension & 23 days annual leave (pro rata)

The Orpen Memorial Hall Caretaker is required to liaise with the Hall Administrator for:

  • updates
  • the requirements of bookings for the following week and
  • to report any issues.

The Administrator will soon be based in the Parish Council Office Tuesdays & Thursdays during office hours.

The Caretaker must be able to work responsibly and flexibly.

The hours worked will be based around evenings and predominately weekends, for a minimum of 8 hours per week. There will be flexibility around exact times dependent on bookings and Bluebells Pre-school occupancy of the building. In particular, the school holidays will allow for more weekday access.

More Detail on the Role

The Parish Council is the Sole Trustee of the Orpen Memorial Hall Trust charity and manages the day-to-day operation of the village hall. On this basis, the successful applicant for the role of Caretaker would be employed on a part time, permanent contract by the parish council.

The Council is looking a appoint a friendly, energetic and reliable individual with a range of practical skills for the role of Caretaker to join our team and contribute to the smooth running of the hall.

Range of Duties

The successful candidate will have a range of duties across the site and should be self-motivated, dependable and trustworthy, as well as being able to work under their own initiative to prioritise workloads.

Responsibilities will include looking after the security of the building, meeting hirers, monitoring maintenance requirements, making minor repairs, ensuring the cleanliness of the premises and preparing the hall for bookings.

The site includes the Social Club Meeting Room, and the external public toilet on the right-hand side of the building and duties may extend to those areas, if required.

Working alongside the Village Hall Administrator, the Caretaker may be needed to attend the hall at irregular hours to help with the overall running of the facility.

The post is permanent and subject to a 12-week period of successful probation. The hours worked will be flexible and consistent with the day-to-day use of the hall and will not be less than 8 hours a week.
