Update on New A12 Junction for North Colchester


An update on this project, which will necessitate some overnight closures of the A12 Colchester Bypass in July, is now available on our website here.
The new junction will serve an area of redevelopment land to the south of the A12 in the vicinity of Weston Homes Community Stadium, enabling the development of residential areas and other mixed uses.
It will form a direct link between the A12 and the new Northern Approaches Road, and serve the relocated BP Services and the proposed Park and Ride.

UPDATED – Emergency Closure of Chitts Hill


Due to a damaged electric cable at the level crossing, Chitts Hill will be closed for 25m each side of the crossing from today (9th October).

The closure will remain in force for 3 – 4 days.

Argents Lane Closed 22nd June for 5 days


Essex County Council have just advised us that Argents Lane is to be closed for 5 days starting from today in order to facilitate roadworks. This conincides with the pre-announced closure of Chapel Lane. Please check here for more details.

Road closure update


Spring Lane at Eight Ash Green will be closed for carriageway repairs for 5 (or more) days from 6th April.  A diversion will be in place via Heath Road, Wood Lane and Halstead Road.  Read more about road closures here.

More Chitts Hill Closures – March 2009

A temporary closure of Chitts Hill has been announced from 05:00 hours on Saturday 14 March to 06:00 hours on Monday 16 March 2009. The closure will be for a distance of 20 metres either side of the level crossing and is scheduled to take place to facilitate track works.

An alternative route is available via Halstead Road, Spring Lane and Argents Lane and vice versa.

Access for pedestrians, including prams and wheelchairs, will be maintained during the closure.

Chitts Hill Road Closures


Further notices have been issued in respect of road closures at Chitts Hill to allow railway works to take place. The affected dates are Sundays 13th, 20th & 27th January and 3rd February starting from 1am and due to be finishing by 4am on the following Monday in each case. More details are available here.

Road Closures – Spring Lane/Bakers Lane

Closure of Spring Lane & Bakers Lane (as detailed below) is required between 8am on Monday 10th December and 5pm on Friday 14th December to facilitate anti-skid works.

  • Spring Lane – between its junctions with Spring Lane Roundabout and Bakers Lane
  • Bakers Lane – between its junctions with Spring Lane and Braiswick

An alternative route for both closures is available via Cymbeline Way, Station Way, North Station Road and the B1508 Bergholt Road/Braiswick.
Access to property will be maintained during the closure.

Road Closures at Chitts Hill


Further road closures are planned at the level crossing as follows:

  • Between 1am on Sunday 25th November and 4am on Monday 26th November
  • Between 1am on Sunday 2nd December 2007 and 4am on Monday 3rd December
  • Between 1am on Sunday 9th December 2007 and 4am on Monday 10th December

An alternative route is available via Halstead Road, Spring Lane and Argents Lane.

Access to property will be maintained during the closure. Cyclists, pedestrians, prams and wheelchairs will be able to ride through the closure.

Women’s Institute February Report

The president, Mrs Joyce Woolhead, thanked everyone for their contributions of toiletries which George and Marion Mills will be donating to the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre in Chernigov, Ukraine. Any further items can be brought to the March meeting. The first play-reading meeting was a great success. Please give Clarice Chittenden any raffle items before the March meeting.

The treasurer reported 52 paid up members so far. The coach for the birthday lunch outing will leave outside the Orpen Memorial Hall on Wednesday 21 February prompt at 12noon.

The speaker was Mrs Gil Fairhead on Aloe Vera and Bee Products.The competition An Old Fashioned Natural Remedy was won by Mrs Marie-Louise Fuell.
