Women’s Institute – September Update

President Pat Moran welcomed members and visitors to the most recent meeting. The W I is looking forward to entertaining past members as their 90th year is celebrated.

A walk is planned for 19 October followed by lunch at Barn Plants.

The scheduled speaker was unable to attend at the last minute but the president gave a fascinating and enlightening talk on her childhood in a mining valley in South Wales.

Next month Barbara Faulkner makes a welcome return with her talk entitled The ‘Witch’ Report on Halloween. Everyone is encouraged to wear something appropriate for the occasion. It is an Open Meeting with several other W I’s invited to attend.

Women’s Institute – August Report

The president Pat Moran welcomed members and reported a very successful outing in July to Carter’s Vineyard. On Wednesday 25 August the John Lampon Hall has been booked from 10am when there will be coffee available followed by a three and a half mile walk and a one mile walk. A ploughman’s lunch will be served from 12 noon. Names and £3 to Jan Lumb. Participation in the walks is optional.

Mr John Morgan spoke about his life and times down the mines.
It has been decided not to have a stall at Heathlands School fete in the future as members are involved with many other organisations on that occasion. £37 was donated to the school.

Subscriptions for next year will be £30 with half going to our WI and the other two quarters to Essex Federation and National. A report on the AGM in Cardiff was given by the president.
To celebrate our 90th birthday next year a cake will be served at the January meeting with a Lunch at the Balkerne Rooms in February. A coach will be provided.
