More information will be announced soon on West Bergholt's shared moment of celebration of VE DAY 80th Anniversary 8th May 2025.
Following on from the removal of waste bins outside the East of England Co-op in West Bergholt, the Parish Council contacted their Customer Support for an explanation and received the following response to our enquiry:![]()
👉 "As part of our commitment to doing the right thing for our communities and the environment, we are adapting to recent changes in legislation that place a stronger emphasis on separating different types of waste.
In response to these changes, we are reviewing the provision of waste bins across our properties to ensure we meet legal requirements while continuing to uphold the hygiene standards expected of us. ![]()
Although we no longer provide general waste bins, we will continue to offer in-store recycling for soft plastics, as well as designated collection points for batteries and vapes, helping customers dispose of these items responsibly.
Any localised concerns about littering will be taken very seriously and we are already working closely with local authorities to monitor the early implementation. ![]()
Alongside our contractors, we remain committed to doing our part in keeping our communities clean and welcoming"![]()

Ten years ago this month we were about to go to the polling booth to elect Parish Councillors - interestingly 5 of the 12 candidates are still councillors to this day. Read their candidacy statements at westbergholt-pc.gov.uk/parish-council-candidates/. Elections this year have been cancelled of course because of devolution preparation.![]()

A Reminder to All Dog Owners – Please Read and Share![]()
Last year, Essex Police responded to multiple reports of dogs harassing or attacking livestock. Ten of these incidents resulted in recorded crimes involving harm to farm animals.![]()
Beyond the emotional distress for farmers witnessing their animals suffer, these attacks often bring significant financial burdens—veterinary costs, damage caused by panicked livestock, and in the worst cases, the tragic loss of animals. Pregnant ewes can miscarry due to stress, and young lambs may become separated from their mothers, putting their lives at risk.![]()
Whether you're out for a countryside walk or live near grazing areas, please take responsibility:
• Always keep your dog on a lead when walking near farmland. Livestock may be moved at any time, and even the most obedient dogs can act unpredictably.
• Make sure your gardens and outdoor spaces are secure to prevent pets from wandering into nearby fields.![]()
A few simple precautions can prevent unnecessary suffering and serious consequences. Let’s protect our countryside and support our farmers. 🐑
