Lexden Road Pond Facelift UpdateParish Councillor Phil Spencer reports on completion of the Lexden Road Pond facelift.
Sadly the pond had become badly silted over the years. By mid-Summer it had become an overgrown stagnant pool, with little signs of life. Remedial work was clearly required to restore the habitat to it’s former glory.
Lexden Road Pond Needs a FaceliftParish Councillors are developing an environment action plan using their professional skills and capabilities. This will help develop the village environmental care and management over the years ahead. As implemented it will run in parallel with regular and planned maintenance activities.
The Queens Head, Lexden and Hall Road ponds all need appropriate management if they are to remain havens for wildlife and attractive features of our village. The Queen’s Head pond had significant work completed two years ago; it included dredging and clearance of the banks. TLC for Queen’s Head PondFollowing the hot summer, it is apparent that the Queen’s Head Pond has suffered greatly and is need of some TLC. The water level has dropped substantially and the pond has become stagnant and de-oxygenated. The level of silt and mud in the pond has also risen to unacceptable, potentially hazardous, levels.
