Some pictures from last years advent calendar

Will you help with an Advent Calendar for 2021?

Last year’s Giant Advent Calendar windows trail was so successful St Mary’s thought they would do it again for 2021! The idea is for 24 windows around the village to be decorated with a scene from the Christmas story, with 1 new window being revealed each day in December, up until Christmas Eve.

The video below shows the amazing designs people created last year (speakers on):

How to help

How it Started

Inspired by other places around the country that turn their village into a giant advent calendar, St Mary’s are very grateful to those who volunteered to decorate a window representing a part of the nativity story.

The idea is that each window has a number in it representing their day and that the actual design is not revealed until the allocated day. The revealed designs are then lit each Continue reading “The First Window Opens This Evening (& other news)”

A Giant Advent Calendar for West Bergholt

West Bergholt as a Giant Advent Calendar?

St Mary’s Church wants to turn the village into a giant Advent Calendar; do you want to be involved?  In other news, do you fancy sitting on the bench?

To celebrate Christmas and what it means to our community, we would like to turn West Bergholt into a giant advent calendar!  The idea is to use 24 windows around the village with 1 new window being revealed each day. Each window will tell part of the Christmas story.  You can look for a new window each day or save a few and do a trail!

Would you like your house or shop to be part of the village advent calendar? You can use an upstairs or downstairs window providing it is visible to people passing by.

New 2012/13 Recycling Calendar now out

Look out for your copy of the new 2012/13 recycling calendar in the post with your Council Tax bill during March.

The recycling calendar applies from April 2012 onwards unless you use communal recycling and rubbish bins. You can help Colchester recycle even more; our target this year is to recycle 43% of all the rubbish produced.

The Calendar includes information on:

  • what you can recycle in blue and green weeks
  • when and how to put your recycling out for collection
  • the enhanced garden waste collection of up to 8 sacks from 6 November

Visit www.colchester.gov.uk/recycling to view the Recycling Calendar in alternative formats, along with information and online services to help you reduce, reuse and recycle your rubbish, home compost and much more. Alternatively email [email protected] or phone 01206 282700.

Getting recycling containers is easy, visit www.colchester.gov.uk/recyclingcontainers to see when rolls of recycling and rubbish bags will be delivered to households (except to flats with communal bins). You can also find recycling containers stockists and an online order form.

For collection news, handy tips and local events register for the eCourier and follow YourColchester on twitter.

Thank you for recycling your rubbish!

Women’s Institute – September Report

The president welcomed members and asked for suggestions for committee in 2011 to be brought to the October meeting.

The walks and lunch on 25 August was a great success and Clarice Chittenden thanked Pat Moran for organising the event with 27 people attending the lunch.

The speaker was Liz Mullen (pictured right reporting from a field gun team training exercise), an ex-BBC Essex presenter who now works on ‘107 Garrison FM‘ radio. Her talk was entitled Not Just a Game of Soldiers.

Orders can now be made for 2011 calendars £3.25 and diaries £3.45 – member Barbara Buckley has a photo included in the calendar.
