It is the aim of the Parish Council to seek a high standard of design for all new developments and extensions in the Village.

Item 1:            To receive any pre-application representations regarding proposed planning applications

None received

Item 2:            Current planning applications:

Location Proposal Application No. and link to CBC planning website Object / Support / Observations Decision or Recommendation Comments by Planning Committee
12 Mumford Close, West Bergholt
Construction of new porch to front entrance and extension to existing garage to side elevation. Both extensions required for increasing storage space. 182756 Support Decision The Parish Council has no comment, except to suggest that the vehicle cross over is widened to allow easy access to the garage.
149 Chapel Road, West Bergholt
Demolition of existing dwelling and replacement of 1.5 high storey residential dwelling. 182231 Observation Decision

The Parish Council agree that a larger dwelling on this plot is acceptable, however in view of its dominant position on the corner of a busy junction this proposal is visually too wide and the roof pitch too shallow for the floor plan, out of keeping locally. The Council would suggest that the roof could be double pitched, with one being offset in order to minimise its impact.

48 Lexden Road, West Bergholt
Demolition of existing dwelling and associated outbuildings, to allow for the erection of 2 no. new dwellings and car ports together with 1 no. new vehicular access, and 1 no. improved vehicular access. 183024 Object Decision The Parish Council has no issue with the erection of two dwellings on this site, as testified in their support of the previous application, however this new proposal will be very dominant in the street scene. It is quite a change from the existing bungalow and this particular design looks like it has been selected from a “pattern” book rather than designed for that location. In the latest application the ridges are approximately half a metre higher and the gables too shallow, not in the tradition of nearby properties. The Council would draw attention to the CBC-approved Village Design Statement, specifically DG7, DG12, DG13 and DG16.
