New primary school places?

New primary school places?

You have until 31st January to share your views online about proposals to create 1,085 new primary school places across five existing Colchester schools from September 2018. All five projects would involve new teaching blocks, enhanced external areas for outdoor PE and play spaces, and increased car parking.

West Bergholt falls into the Colchester north and rural northeast zone where the following is forecast:

Primary Reception Forecasts
Year 16/17 17/18 18/19 19/20 20/21 21/22 22/23 23/24 24/25 25/26
Surplus 23 7
Shortfall 27 7 20/21 35 49 61 72 72

According to the council’s ten year plan Colchester, which is one of the fastest growing areas in Essex, will need 2,541 new primary and 2,615 secondary places over the next decade. Its purpose is to set out:

  • the context within which school organisation operates in Essex
  • the demand for school places over the next 10 years within each of the county’s quadrants and the local authority’s plans to meet it
  • the solutions already under consideration and in development, in order to do so in the immediate to mid-term
  • the possible options to address demand for the longer-term, as it arises in the future.

You can find out more about the proposals and have your say by attending one of five public drop-in sessions between 10 and 17 January 2017.
