About Bergholt Youth Group

Established in 2008, Bergholt Youth Group (BYG) is a vibrant youth club for children aged 11-14 (school year groups 6 to 9) in West Bergholt and surrounding areas. With an average attendance of 70-80 children per session, BYG offers a safe and fun environment for kids to meet friends, especially those who have moved on to different secondary schools.

We have a close relationship with West Bergholt Parish Council, Heathlands School, and are affiliated with Essex County Council Youth Service.

What We Do

Club Sessions

The club has exclusive use of Orpen Hall, the smaller John Lampon Room and the MUGA during its operating hours.

Table tennis & Pool
  • Indoor Activities: Enjoy pool, table tennis, table football, PlayStation, and arts and crafts.
  • Outdoor Activities: Exclusive use of the MUGA for ball games, playground facilities, and playing field.
  • Tuck Shop: We also have a very popular tuck shop where treats and drinks can be purchased at a fair price.

Special Events

At present we have two special events during the academic year. One is the Christmas party, where we give the large hall over to a disco, provide a fabulous photo booth and food for the children (usually pizza which for many of them is a favourite meal!)

In the summer we hold an inflatables day which includes a water fight (depending on the weather)!

Both these events are extremely popular with the children, and work well as ‘special’ days a little different from the usual evenings which are largely unstructured. They also help the children to celebrate two very special times of the year, Christmas and the end of the academic year.

Membership and Fees

  • Membership Fee: £3 per child per year.
  • Entry Fee: £1 per session for members, £1.50 for guests, and £3 for special events.

Volunteering Opportunities

The club needs a good pool of volunteers, both adults and young people from Year 10 and upwards. You don’t need youth work experience (although it is welcomed), interest & enthusiasm are equally important If you’re interested, you can contact them at [email protected].
